Chas, he wasn't experienced, the wind was against him, the son was in his eyes, the other vehicles sharpened the rocks, the ref was biased..... you can make any excuse you like.
The bottom line is the new Defender is a great outdoors vehicle, but it should not venture too far off the well beaten track.
