That Defender is a PoS.

I really like the Bronco & I'm NOT a Ford fan.

Before watching the video I would have chosen the Bronco - the video confirmed it...
The Bronco is basically a Rubicon for straight men.

BTW: Toyota had that turn assist before Ford - Ford stole it from Toyota...

I don’t think you can blame the Land Rover.

It’s the tyres.

Anyone who has bought Goodyear Wranglers lately is definitely regretting their decision.

I think the fact that Defender don't come out with proper size rims and tires means that it is aimed at the mall crawler market. Maybe if someone mod it properly it will be very very capable.

I agree ... but these days offroad and overlanding etc
demand segment is economically insignificant market compared with mall crawlers and urban parading etc ...
IMO New Defender (and D3-D5s etc ) are overpowered ...
should downscale so power - mass - braking playoff
permits more practical profile rims/tyres.
Old TDi's and even Series 3s etc were highly capable offroad yet they were/are quite arguably underpowered.

You also don’t need chunky high profile sidewalls for greenlaning so why try and cater for southern African conditions if most of your customers are up north here in sunny Europe/United Kingdom?

Those Dedender tyres were very poor - you will notice that, being North Americans, they didnt really deflate. They dropped those tyres to just under 1.7 bar.
So for the Defender to pop 2 in under 300mm is pathetic...
You couldnt climb an angled kerb with those tyres...

And to say you need to mod the tyres - that model can only drop to 18" so you could only go up one size in profile...

Only a knobhead would buy a 4x4 that can't take 17" rim's...

their last Solihull motor … the 4.6L V8 … especially
in respect of progressively stricter emission legislation.

“ … In 1995, Land Rover enlarged the Rover V8 to 4,552 cc (4.6 L; 277.8 cu in). The bore remained the same size as the previous 4.0 at 94 mm (3.7 in), but the engine was stroked by 10.9 mm (0.43 in) giving 82 mm (3.23 in) in total. Output was 225 hp (168 kW; 228 PS) and 280 lb⋅ft (380 N⋅m).

Production of the 4.6 ended at Solihull, UK, in 2004. The final version, introduced in the Range Rover P38, produced 218 hp (163 kW; 221 PS) at 4,750 rpm and 300 lb⋅ft (407 N⋅m) at 2,600 rpm.

The last mass-produced application of the Rover V8 was in the Land Rover Discovery, up until the vehicle was redesigned in 2005. It is still used by some hand-built sports cars built by some independent manufacturers. “

This motor was in many ways as powerful as the lower end Ingeniums yet the vehicles it powered had the standard array of brakes, rims and tyres …

… I have the 3.5L low compression,
but the 4.6L was Solihuls Grande Finale!

The V8s, Tdi and Td5 are all good for my needs,

The new Bronco is a nice looking vehicle. I am a huge Ford fan but I cannot see the Bronco as a practical overland vehicle. If I were still in my 30`s the Bronco would have made sense as a toy. Right from the start when the first pictures of the ND become available I lost interest. Read up much on it and tried to watch a few videos. In person I find it a very boring vehicle. The Wrangler stays a Wrangler and is still hard to beat as a serious off road 4x4.
You will never find me without Stroh or a 4x4 :D

Bronco is a good looking and very capable vehicle , especially with the Sasquatch package . Love it!

Quite impressed with the hybrid package in the Rubicon too. Electric vehicles are getting better and better - an electric motor with all that low down torque is the perfect rock crawler. Definitely starting to make some sense.

The tyres might be why the Defender was abandoned, but it was battling over some pretty simple obstacles anyway. It was never going to make that trail even with proper tyres. NOT an off-roader. nice car though , but I've got to say, now they are on the roads, the styling doesn't do much for me.

Funny they didn't mention price - A Bronco first edition is listed at US$62 000 plus US$8000 or so for the sasquatch option. Cool you can order it from the factory.

Rubicon 4xe is listed at US$53 000 before options, which should definitely be a lift and 35s!

The P400 4 door Defender is US$ 75 000 and up....
