18 inch rims?

So I should take delivery of my new vehicle this week.

It has 265 60 R18's on.

To my (old fashioned) mind this is not ideal for 4x4ing, heavy loads,towing heavy trailers or potholes!

Too little sidewall.

Am I right or just being paranoid?

I must add the previous owner just put brand new RADAR tyres on - I don't know the brand and the interweb is conflicting.

Any contributions/advice?

18" is a problem to me.
- availability if you bust 2 tyres
- not enough foot print in really soft sand.
But that is just me...

Exactly my concern.

Not planning on making this my "hard core" 4x4 vehicle, yet I do want the option of using it in the rough from time to time.

Shane, most of us runs on 17inch, my Fortuner is 265/70/17, I deflate to as low as 1.0 bar, and my rims take a beating some times. This video taken on Baboons pass clearly shows what beating a tyre takes. https://youtu.be/wY39jd4mhII.

There is nothing wrong with an 18" ito Off Roading...

But...
the 60 Profile is an issue.
Cost on replacement is an issue.

So either go to a 65 profile on replacement.

or...

Go for a 265/70 17" as I have on Fearless...

But, that's just my opinion...

Most modern vehicles need a big rim to fit over the brake caliper .

If you’ve got a 3 ton vehicle that can do 200+ it needs them.

I doubt it will accept a 17” alloy rim whatever it is.

265/60 gives you a 159mm side wall height . 6”.

More will always be better but it’s not a rubber band . It’s okay . Depends what size kerb you intend mounting at what speed !

Busy with a D4D conversion but ran into a serious lack of knowledge and skill

I'll be dropping it off at someone who actually knows what he's doing in about 3 weeks time.

Just waiting for him to finish the current D4D conversion he's busy with.

Most of these Toyotas (and a few other makes I know of) just have the 18" conversion because "it looks lekker".
One guy I know fitted 16" rims on his Chevy Trailblazer which came out with 18" rims.
