Troopy, the choice of die hard overlanders. More space than a 76 with its wheel base equal to that of a 79 Pickup.
The 4.2 is the last of the old mechanical pump diesel engines available. Contaminated and Paraffin diluted diesel won`t kill it.
But the 4.2 is a Donkey and you have to adapt your driving style to that. In my book it is a vehicle for owners with prolonged ownership in mind.
You buy it, you kit it, you keep it.

A guy with a kitted out Prado who tells me he is an overlander is embarrassing.
A guy with a Troopy who tells me he is an overlander - I end up buying him a dop.

Its for Game Wardens & the like.
You swanky, soft, leather-seat sitters are not it's target market...
If you buy that Troopy you don't need overland recovery cover - it will bring you back every time.

Your forefathers rode up here from the Cape on Ox wagons & Horseback.
You Afrikaners have gotten soft over the past 100 years...

I'd gladly carry a few cans of oil and an oil filter on an overlanding trip.
It takes less space than 6 jerrycans full of 10ppm diesel I have to carry around because of dirty diesel fears.

You forgot to mention the funnel and 12 litre oil catch can or are you going to dump it on the road side in the bush?
I gonna tell Greta about you!

I reckon Boris will be very upset if I drive through the ULEZ in central London with one of those, on my way to the Channel Tunnel whilst on my way to Cape Point.... but at least I will get to Cape Town with only 2.65 services required along the way.
