I've posted this before, but here goes.

My fleet:
2000 KB 280DT 430000km - no issues.

2003 KB 300TDi 230000km - no issues (A/C is fubar though).

2005 KB300 Go Big Hi-Jacked at 255000km - no issues at that stage.

2010 KB300 D-Teq 240000km - no issues. Fan gives trouble though.

2019 KB6 250D 33000km - no issues.

1999 Isuzu NPR 400 truck 4.3l non turbo - 112000km - no issues.
Eats clutches though.

LX has a 2000 D-Max 250D with 67000km - no issues.

New D-Max isn’t between R300-R400K as the OP requested
Mike, try stay with me here...

The OP is looking forward to the launch of the new D-Max in the hope that it's launch will affect the resale value of the current KB-6 D-Max, in his favour...
Won’t happen. This is not Aus where Isuzu sells a lot of units.

But. If the OP waits till 2022, more of those R400K plus Isuzus would have depreciated to under R400K 🤣

... I do recall those tricky days past trying to find new car for wife ... went to Renault and shown a Sondero,
... looked under bonnet and only 3 cylinders down there ... and that slimy salesman had acted as if everything was fine and normal ...

There are some simple rules if one wants a ultra reliable motor :
Straight 4, St.or V 6, or V8
2 valves per cyl
No or little turbo boost
no common rail
etc
eg
Basic Isuzu
TDi Landy motors
1Hz Toyota
etc
... and one should go bigger capacity for power and performance rather than these complex computerised and boosted mod day wonders that squeeeze power and perf out of small cap engines that only live 1/2 as long ...
... especially true if the car is only a weekend or occasional use vehicle...
... oh ... and manual rather than auto.
... My opinion ...

My TD5 was infinitely better than my Tdi. :-)

Given the amount of time I spend in traffic, an auto will be much better.

low/reasonable mileage TDi s are a rare find these days and as 4*4s have often had a long hard life.
TD5s are an enigma to me ...
admittedly far better than they should be
... by my argument !
When my motor eventually packs in ,
I will replace it with a rebuilt TDi.
