New Land Rover 110 Software Update

#1

Post by Mad Manny »

This is hilarious. A guy trying to update the software on his Defender (UK).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMtlMzFq3pI

So in this video we are told by the car that there is a software update ready to install and it is downloaded. In order to take the downloaded file and update the car this will take the car an estimated 40 minutes during which time i cannot use the car. But we tried this several times at different locations and it failed to work each time. I think i know a potential issue - i have not fitted the sim card for the entertainment system but this does not make sense as the file is downloaded and surely the car should use the inbuilt "in control" sim card for this data ?

4:33 video of this poor schmuck trying to update his Software - who buys these vehicles?

Here is the 2nd video - Part 2 of this Knobhead trying to update the Software on his Defender...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0-Ccp9rNpY

We had another go at getting the software update to work today. We tried resetting the infotainment system ( Pivi Pro ) and we also tried doing a "connectivity reset" and both of these failed. As a last resort we also washed the car... still no joy.

Washed the car! That's funny!
This DumbFookery goes on for nearly ten minutes...

Here is Part 3 of this poor sod trying to update his Defender 110's Software...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sb3BT5imkhs

In this video we try a few more actions to try and get to the all elusive software level of 2.0.4 on our new Land Rover Defender 2020. We try Wifi and we try using a battery charger to maintain battery voltage... still no joy.... do we fix the issue...
Here is the Land Rover video i referenced

These things will certainly affect the resale value, much like a laptop.

Oh the irony...

A so-called robust go-anywhere ultimate 4x4 overland vehicle that can tackle any terrain sometimes need a software update which it cannot do on its own (or refuses to recognize its own update).

Luckily there are Android and Apple support teams in every town/city/village in Africa.

Life is too short to struggle with a brand that’s got a reputation for being unreliable.

I am not sure when Toyota, or whoever, commissioned this Youtube video but LR says:

"The download has failed. What should I do?
You can use your vehicle as normal. A failed download will not affect your vehicle’s functionality in any way. Please contact the Land Rover Customer Relationship Center (1-800-346-3493) or your Land Rover Retailer and they will investigate further"

eg when did this genius Youtuber check :

"Is my vehicle eligible for an Infotainment System software update?
Vehicles eligible for an infotainment system update will have software version 18B or above. You can check what software version your infotainment system is through the Settings menu, within the Software Update section. The version of the infotainment system will be displayed as a long string of characters, e.g. ‘S18B_18.25.3-174880’...and when did it say he must lock his car etc etc ??

Chas the Youtuber is English and clearly of average intelligence in that country.

I'm sure a New Defender owner in South Africa would have managed.

The Youtuber is Powerul UK LTD.(powerfulukltd) he is a Land Rover nut and has dozens of You Tube Videos...

He runs a Spares shop in the UK.

I did not allude to his nationality
... nor to his mental capacity
or capability in fact or reputation...
.
From what you say he has a number
interests and occupations ...
... and you seem impressed with
his stated (?) accomplishments (?) ...
.
I'm perplexed ... may I just ask:
