There are reports that India may produce a 5 door Jimny (Sierra).

Our two 'Jimny Whisperers' Flipside & Saxj both dispute this.

Background:
The previous Jimny (the 1300) was around for 20 years.
India never got that model.
India still runs the previous SJ called the Gypsy.

The only reason they got the Gypsy is that the Indian military buys it & that kept production going.

The Gypsy was discontinued over 2 years ago, but you can still get it on order (in India) - I assume they do limited runs as & when the military places an order.

But effectively, for the past 2 years, Indians can't buy a SJ/Gypsy/Jimny.

The Indians are crying out for the new Jimny Sierra

Maruti Suzuki
Maruti Suzuki is big & powerful.
Suzuki's sell very well in India thanks to Maruti.
Maruti sell a re-badged RAV as a Suzuki in India.
Two Suzuki's are re-badged as Toyota's there.

Suzuki cannot keep up with demand of the Jimny - this despite the fact that they pulled the Jimny from Europe & it isn't sold in North America.

Suzuki Japan & Maruti have built a factory in India to produce the Jimny - this will solve the demand issues.
The Jimny's from this factory will apparently NOT be sold in India.
Production from this factory will start soon (? September 2020)
So the poor Indians, who are desperate for the new Jimny, will make it, but can't buy it.

The rumours are that another factory will be built to supply India only.
The Jimny's in this2nd factory may be 5 door & may or may not be 4x4.

Indians have large families - a 5 seater is essential there.

Even the Gypsy was (apparently) fitted with rear side bench seats facing one another.

So let's see.

The 5 door Jimny is now here!

I'll believe it when I see it. Speculation and imagination don't make reality.

Well, it took some time, but it is here,
300mm longer and 2 extra doors.

But the inside size difference is spectacular.
Engine remains the same as current 3 door 1.5

I have to admit I quite like it, but I think it will need a serious suspension lift to keep up with the SWB Gen4

Now it just needs a Turbo and a slight power increase and a large torque jump, then it'll be a nice vehicle....

Yep.
The 1.5 struggles to push the 3-door, I predict a VERY leisurely performance on this version.

75kW and 130Nm at sea level = 64kW and 110Nm in JHB

The G18 engine would have been better.

We have hybrid Zuks here in Dutch land. That could be an interesting option for the Jimny. But at just under Eur 40k for a bottom range Jimny, it gets a bit expensive versus other vehicles available here.
Cheese, canals and mud. Flattest country in the world. Wish they had 4x4'ing here

For around R100k more than the Jimny you can get a 4x4 Scorpio N Z8.
Much more power
Lower consumption
Way, way, way more features.
Double the torque.
Better service plan and warranty.
More space
Better range.
Two more gears.

The Jimny is cuter and slightly more capable off road in the rough stuff & R100k is a chunk of change, but otherwise the Scorpio N trumps it....

For R220k you can get the following which is infinitely more capable 4x4:

And it will be infinitely more safe and better on the road as well. The other R250k can be used for fuel. Which is 100,000kms worth of fuel.

The joys of old Jeeps...

I had a Jeep XJ and I worked out that what I spent on fuel and maintenance would be the equivalent of financing, insuring, fuelling and maintaining a new Jimny. So the only part of the XJ that stayed was my forum name.

Let us not discuss old Defenders............ What I spent on my 1989 110 V8 County Station Wagon effectively could have financed a reasonably low kilo Nissan Patrol once I got it sorted. And then it still used 20L/100km and didn't have enough power to pull the skin off a custard.
