I believe Land Rover purposely make their sideshafts ‘the weakest link’ of the full drive train...
This is based on the logic that if somethings
‘ has to give’ its best the sideshaft does...
and not the upstream: diff, prop-shafts, TB etc

Maybe the Granadilla folk should think on that.
Always though tyres to be the weakest link. Should they not loose grip before anything breaks?

... there was a post on this forum ... not long ago, of a gnarled, twisted, broken jap-metal prop-shaft ... if that happens in the bush its probably* a show stopper !
... a “Call Henris !” event.
CASAVAC !
Me ... I carry an old pair of side shafts and a drivemember ... unless break is in near diff or shaft is stuck it can be <1 hour to replace.
:ugeek: :D :ugeek: :D :ugeek: :D :ugeek:

* ... though I once lost a prop-shaft 1/2 way
between Hotazel & Van Steynsrus because alignment guy never re-tightened radial arm bolts ... took whole back prop out and travelled right round and down to Upington just on Front Wheel Drive ... but Range Rover, as such, would not have been capable for any testing obstacle or off-road.

... he was very lucky more than anything else.

I get that (4.2L ?) engines torque output to be 400 nm vs even my standard 2.25L TD5 at 300 nm ... so through the gearing, at the wheel etc
may not be vastly different.

RR Classic V8s of 3.9-4.6L will deliver same if not more torque.

... but I agree about wheel traction normally being weaker link ahead of drive train ! !

I think Im right in saying its usually the
short side shaft that fails on a LR but
the Granadilla may not have a short one...

Depends how many wheels have traction. The ones that do get all the multiplied torque. It can be more amplified with lockers.
