Where is my dream Prado 120 located?

#1

Post by LesseW »

Hi all,

As many know, i wrote my FJ off and bought a Prado 150 again as my daily/holiday drive which i will not take on a 4x4 trail.

I am looking to buy a Prado (Non-negotiable) 120 or 150 TX with the following specs:

- R 200 000 max unless R20K extra will give me a kitted vehicle or very low kms. Of course a lower priced vehicle in line with value I get is preferable.
- less than 220 000 km on the clock, the vehicle must still be able to do 100K km without any mechanical failures (300k km total before I can expect a mechanical failure)
- No "pearl" color, I had a pearl white before and learnt my lesson!

if you know of one, please mention it for further follow up.

thanks for the help

Get a 120 with a suspect or tired 1KZ. Then I will fit a 1KD with a mechanical pump.

Ok,

I narrowed it down to 3 vehicles so far. Please give critique (Manny, just be yourself):

1. https://www.carfind.co.za/showroom.aspx ... id=5139802 . Full service history

2. https://www.webuycars.co.za/buy-a-car/57EDD0681 . This is a 150 TX so a lot of newer and suspension is up-gradable, but it will cost a lot to get it 4x4/overland ready

3. See pictures below: R230 000, 190 000 km, 2009 model, New BFs. Full service history

Regards

My choice, assuming you get all the mods, is the first one. Those mods alone are worth R50k I reckon

Just had a quick look on various sites. Not all that much around if you use your criteria. Kurt is correct with his choice of the three you have shown. If your idea is to kit the vehicle out then just realise that it will cost you a fortune until you get all the things you will want. Its a never ending process.

Any car that costs close to R1m new is going to cost you in maintenance, especially if you mod it, load it and then drive rough roads with it. When looking at 10 or more year old cars, you are going to spend big money if you want to keep it 100%.

Why are you worried about paint color on a 10 year olds car that you are going to drive in the bush?

Thanks Andreas, nr 1 is currently winning. I had a Pearl white before and they can never blend it correctly after a re-spray. I am not worried about a scratch here and there but a re-spray by “moegoe” will bug me therefor i stay away from Pearl colors
