The Pulsar was no less crap than any other Datsun/Nissan but it had a wheel in each corner a 1500 motor that lasted (which is rare for the brand).
Guys used to put that 1500 in the Nissan 1400.

Yes it was cheap and nasty, but it did want it said on the can.
The 300C GL didnt and the fat willowy 200 and 300ZX certainly didn't do what they were supposed to.

The Pulsar then was a lot like the Etios now, cheap to own and run, but reliable.

Yes, I may know nothing, but at least I didnt make myself brand drompoppie for a crap make....

The Pulsar motor was basically the same Austin design that Datsun had employed in all its small (less than 1600cc) engines, so it was not better or worse than the 1200/1400 bakkie engine. The phucking thing's wheels fell off (literary - the rear suspension was prone to collapse as the mountings were too weak). Where do you think the "Breakapart" slogan that they used at the time came from? The front wheel drive design (stolen from the original Mini) resulted in a gearbox whine that would put a WWII troop carrier to shame. It was their worst car EVER !!!!

I used to have a lot of respect for Datsun.
My brother had a 1600 SSS.
Could never get those carbs balanced properly - but it went like rampaging EFF supporters in a cafeteria.

On the 19th of September 1982 Datsun changed to Nissan in SA.
The Datsun Skyline became a Nissan Skyline.
Guys driving Skylines had the headlights fall out & the dash drop onto thei laps.

The company was in decline.

We had a 2.5D Hardbody. We also had a Hilux 2.4D - the Toyota's superiority was staggering.

Toyota refused to buy Nissan.

So like a cheap whore, they offered themselves to anyone.

The decline continued when a French Leb got Renault to buy it.

That's like Azerbaijan buying Germany.

Renault then raped Nissan of it's tech while managing to make Nissan it's bitch even though it was a tie up of equals.

Many Renaults are just re-badged Nissans.

They then made the blunder of bringing back the Datsun name & slapping it in the Kwid/Go! - the biggest heap O shite made in the new millennium...

Other than the patrol & a few exceptions like the Pulsar & Stanza & more recently, the Qashqai, Nissan hasn't made many vehicles worth buying since PW was our finger wagging President...

The Navara/X-Class/Alaskan is a prime symptom of the decline of Nissan, especially under the Alliance.

In SA the Nissan Off Road Club (NORC) collapsed, there is a reason the Patrol guys call themselves Patrol guys & not Nissan Patrol guys.
I don't know of a single Nissan fan (other than Reenen) & I even know two guys who think Mahindras are awesome.

But now that the Renault/Nissan/Dacia Alliance is in tatters & Nissan has had Carlos the Jackal arrested, they can possibly start turning the company around - but I doubt it.
I want to argue, but I can’t.

Well said.
Me too, you cannot argue with that statement, and I have had 3 Nissans in the last 6 years.. Even the Patrol, the first one I had, in my opinion is not what it could have been.. Due to Nissan's poor governance and marketing strategy.

The Ausies, who had an almost fanatic Patrol following are loosing hope with them.
And to be honest, the Toyota guys are just doing a better job of everything... (I just wish they could bring out a decent little car with enough tech and a modern engine, for less than 300k

Ek ken my kar.

I got a call from the local Nissan regarding my complaint. Apparently the local dealer construes it that I filed a complaint against him.

He admitted that he did not know what caused the problem and undertook to make some calls to SA dealers.

That was 6 days ago. No reply yet.
