I don't understand this Thread:
Turbos to make it go.
Bigger Intercoolers to keep it cool.
EGT's to monitor?
None of this makes sense to us Toyota drivers.
We get in and drive.
Simple...
Agree, Fortuners are the most reliable cars out there, provided you don't try squeeze more power out of them.
The only ones I know of that have gone home on a flat bed, are the pimped ones...
And that is the point. You can get a LOT of torque out of a TD42, provided you do it right.
But stock standard, I trust a Toyota. Only if it remains stock standard.

You can make silly power and torque With the Toyota 1VD V8 and 1HD turbo. Good reason why the guys racing in the Australian diesel class race 1HD Toyota engines in their Patrols.
Certain diesel engines designs are just way better than other for performance upgrades.

So what you are saying Alex, is "Don't mess with perfection".
I agree....

I won't argue with that, suffice to say, likewise, the Toyota guys in the Outback challenge use Patrol diffs...
If perfection means you cannot go up all the dunes at Waterford, then yes!
Waterford is no challenge anymore. Guys are running Langduin with D4D Hiluxes
Waterford were a challenge 10 years ago before it were spun out.
The last time I were there a 79 Cruiser V8 done by Rob Green ate Langduin.
Anyways Little Patrol cows and the Yank V8 Ranger Waterford.
