Ok so I did not get a V8.Petrol or Diesel.
I Ordered a 2018 Amarok V6, should be available in August.
A family member works for VWSA so I get a huge family discount from the factory on ex lease vehicles.
In the end the Amarok was my choice due to.
Price!
V6 165 kw
Comfort
Permanent 4x4
Auto
Bakkie
So i will still dream of a TDV8 or V8 Touareg but those were beyond my current budget, if I wanted nearly new.
oh - didn't finish the thread!
the Audi V6 diesel seems to be pretty bullet proof. If you get one at a good price, it makes quite a lot of sense.

The Audi V6 is a bit of an enigma, its a high revving diesel that makes decent power and low down torque, (refer Alex’s very informative post on the topic)
Back to the Audi V6, it is even upsetting the boating world in marine applications!
Traditionally big marine inboards are the domain of SBC’s which has proven itself in this regard and though many diesels have come and gone, the SBC always remained supreme, until the arrival of the Audi[emoji12]
There is a very good reason why I have two parked in my driveway right now[emoji12]

Small Block Chevy V8, mostly the 350ci/5.7L or the newer LS series of Chevy V8's.
Now stop putting Lexus "V8's" in your toys or behind fans and start using the aforementioned engines. You'll love them soon enough and can squeeze stupid power out of them with enough extras.

It’s quite a versatile engine, variances can produce anything from 140 to 240 kw depending mostly on the architecture of the heads.
I tried to strip of all the covers so you can see the actual engine, but after half an hour gave up! XJ will be ecstatic!

That’s what a modern engine compartment should look like [emoji41].
Audi do make very very good Diesel engines. It’s just their emissions that got them into trouble.
Hannes - the VW only uses 1 ring whereas the Audi uses 4. That’s why the last longer.
