Force Balancing
Hi All, is force balancing worth while doing? Can anyone recommend somewhere in Gauteng doing it?

Are you referring to Road Force balancing?
That is where they apply a load to the tyre when balancing it. The "theory" is somewhere in the line of applying road pressures when the wheel is turning, and then doing balancing accordingly, making is more 'effective balancing'. In that case, I have used Tyre-Mart in hatfield. Great job, but relatively expensive, and would in my opinion not do it on a 4x4 vehicle that actually gets used offroad.
You climb one nice rock or play around a bit, then the 'perfect' balance is off again, rather use that money and do 'normal' blanacing more often to save tyres.
But in the case of like an M5, Toureq etc... Sure i'll do it...
Maybe that help... Maybe you are referring to something else...

Ok, I get you. But surely with bigger and heavier tires the best rim orientation and balancing will help with longevity. I've had to do alignment quite often after going offroad but haven't had to do balancing..Bugjuic wrote: ↑Tue Jun 03, 2025 1:44 pmAre you referring to Road Force balancing?

If anyone knows where this balancing can be done please let me know. I've just changed tires on FAT AMY, and just for the heck of it will happily take her for Force Balancing to check the difference in weighting applied.
Never mind having to this process on RRR...soon...

IMHO, just proper inflation and rotation will take you further when it comes to tyre life.
I would do simple standard balancing when doing the rotation.
I reckon if you're getting bad mileage from the tyre...............then it's the tyre.
For that reason I avoid Coopers (price versus longevity) and anything made in ZA (can't balance most of them).

Hi Rem
Completely agree with your statement, just to keep in mind, larger wheel take longer to get the feel of unbalanced. But the road-force balancing is definitely the 'better' choice, just not bang for buck in my opinion(for off-road use)
As stated in my previous post. Tyremart Hatfield does Road-force balancing, and does it well if I might add. Repositioned my wheel three times to get it right, but this was only done on ONE wheel, as the standard balancing would not get that specific wheel balanced correctly on-road.
By the way Jakes, it was on coopers which I had the problem of balancing, worst tyres I have ever owned, and they don't want to give in so I can replace them! Thinking of it, I'm broke anyway, so they should last me a while...

Speak to Auwkey or Henk, both very knowledgeable. Overall prices at that branch also very good!

An update on this post:
I found a place close to me that does this Road force balancing, I took RRR in with her new 35s. Tire's and More in Woodmead, speak to Deon if you're interested... The process took 5 hours to do 5 tires and was really interesting. They don't apply a force to the tires any longer. Its a specialized laser unit that scan tire and rim and shows run out of rim and tire. It then recommends the change in orientation of rim to tire, and even the best wheel orientation and fitment to the vehicle. Yes Manny, its more expensive, but I was more than happy to pay for it, especially when you realize the unit used costs about half a million rand, and the amount of labor involved. One tire and rim had to be deflated and rotated twice to get the best results. Hoping the reduced wear will be offset by a couple thousand kms with the muds on!
