Not really… also for a brief amount of time in Souf Effrica…
ADVERTISED as such, but neither Reenen or I could find any dealer stock at that stage.

Current
2012 VW Transporter 2.0 BiTdi SWB 4Motion (unlike most of the Land Rovers, it's broken - keeps peeing out its coolant)
2004 Land Rover Discovery II TD5 (has numerous battle scars, compliments of cost centre no. 2, firstborn's driving)

Previous
2007 VW Kombi 2.5 TDi 4Motion (sold it when parts started falling off, but in its defence, it went where many other 4x4s cowered)
2001 Land Rover Defender 130 TD5 (dammit, I shouldn't have sold this one, but my crumbling spine meant I couldn't drive it any longer)
1997 Land Rover Defender 110 300Tdi (shouldn't have sold this one either - stripped of everything I could remove and had a straight through pipe for an exhaust - could hear it coming several blocks away - went anywhere and everywhere without any fuss, and sometimes a "little" momentum)
1990's VW Citi Golf (company car, the best 4x4 by far - it went up Sani Pass, and off road often enough to have to replace the shocks once a year)
19?? Land Rover FC 2B Overlander 300tdi conversion (stripped and sold to another FC owner who needed one with papers)
19?? Land Rover FC 2B Dropside, Chev 4.1 straight 6 conversion - on a dark night you could see the cylinder head glowing red hot (partially converted into a game viewer, eventually abandoned somewhere in Phalaborwa)
19?? ex-SADF Jeep CJ6 Ford 3.0 V6 conversion (student car, came with a 2l Coke and a 1l brandy, and no seatbelts...or doors)

Erin, I would have loved to have an FC2B with a TDi.

Sadly, it hardly ever drove. Spent more time on a flatbed than on the road. Too much engineering of parts required, and not enough time (cash)...

Adaptor from Series box to Tdi wasn't done correctly (bought it like that), or transplant an R380 box, which wouldn't play nice with the Series UJs. Ultimately, the best route would have been to transplant a whole Defender drive train, customising various bits as required, and then of course it would make sense to convert to coils etc etc etc. Too big a project for my backyard and limited skills.

If had to do it over, I'd keep it original, or cash allowing, build the FC body onto a Defender chassis and drive train.

… LT95 and 10.5” clutch from a RRC
would surely have done the business
(if there was space to fit them) ;
and I think FCs come with Salisbury Diffs ?

Mine had ENV diffs and axle... giant round pumpkins. Snapped a front half-shaft once and got the truck to stand up on its nose in the middle of the road, near Balfour Park shopping centre. That certainly got everyone's attention, and I nearly went over the windscreen (open cab). :-)

I've always had this craving for a Gelandewagen. The 300TD.
