The new Ranger

I just wish the media would shut up about "dethroning the Hilux" nonsense - its just clickbait.
But anyhoo, Seems it will get the cranky Lion 3lt diesel, 2lt bi-turbo and a 2.3 petrol.
I like the interior apart from the massive touch screen - which is useless much like any touch screen to operate while driving gravel. And its just something that shows snot filled gunky finger marks.
I am a bit undecided on the exterior though. A bit too 'merican for my taste.
Edit: ek lees soos my hol. The 2.3 is only available to rednecks. #GFYS Ford.

Like all new shapes it will take some getting used to.....
Agree, the 'merican shape is a little hard on the eye....
But I'm sure it will be a great truck!
Like the larger loading bay - will be quite practical for those that load pallets.

I see they have made it even less off-road capable than the old Ranger. But I like the looks.

Fortunately it's not much larger than the current T6 Ranger, which is already huge.
SA won't get the petrol motor.
So it basically a carry over of the current 2.0 SiT and Tit motors.
Obviously VW pushed for widening the gap between the wheel arches so it could take a Euro palette, which is a big thing for VW, for some reason.
The only really significant changes of any interest to anyone are:
• They've pushed the front axle forward, which will increase interior space and stability, but make that horrible break over angle even worse - but it's a moot point, no one takes a Rangerok off road anyway.
• There's now a V6 3.0, obviously also a VW requirement, no one bought the smaller-engined Amaroks after the V6 was launched.
• The larney'er models will get rear disc brakes, but it looks like it's still leaf sprung at the back.
Other than it's just another Ford that will struggle against the Hilux and D-Max....

Styling? Love it. It’s butch. It looks like a man’s bakkie unlike the mom’s wagon which clearly some of the okes here crave

But either way, eventually these new vehicles will become old and surely find their way to the 4x4 trails.....
If they don't then this hobby will surely die out?
So the better/worse capabilities will eventually be tested on tge tracks...
Still think it's a good vehicle for the average bakkie owner.

So took the 3.0L V6 XLT for a test drive over lunch.
My honest impression of the new Ranger
Like:
Looks. It is a good looking vehicle
The loadbin. Side steps, place for clamps etc. Well thought through
Infotainment system + the wireless Apple Carplay
Price. The entry level V6 (XLT 4x4 which is permanent 4wd) is $65'000 which sits well compared to competition
Tech. You can program the blind spot monitor to include your trailer as well (you can actually save your trailer dimensions). Nice to have? Yes, but still a nice safety feature
Drive. It is a nice vehicle to drive, I think the permenant 4WD will be great on gravel
V6. It sounds good and is great to drive. Works much better with the 10-speed auto that the 2.0 BiTdi
Dislike:
Interior feels a bit cheep and plasticy (I expected a more premium feeling). Apart from the big infotainment screen the new D-Max has a better interior
The build quality doesn't seem to great on these first models. The center console on the unit I drove had a rattle and felt quite loose
The space in the rear feels exactly the same as the previous model. Doesn't feel like any changes was made here
I'm still not a fan of the 10-speed, although I must admit it works better with the V6. I still think a normal well geared 6 or 8 speed auto would have worked better
I am not sure if I am ready to part with my money yet for one of these... I do think they are value for money in the segment and Ford (as always) is quite keen to structure a deal for you. Stock is an issue (not sure if SA will have same challenges being a "local" market). Order now for April/May 2023 deliveries

Can't afford one, and will never buy a Ford anyway, but I sort of like it. Better than the pseudo-sedan styling that the Japanese have adopted.
The Navara Pro-4X Warrior looks good as well.
