I want to discuss BATTERY POWERED Chainsaws.
Why?
Because I am considering buying one... maybe.
What's this got to do with 4x4'ing?
Shauno Mate of 4WD Action Arsetrrailer aka 4WD 24/7 carries a Milwaukee Li-On chainsaw
They use it to deal with trees blocking their path or to cut firewood.
But mainly, because Milwaukee Tools is a Sponsor of the Channel.
Background:
After watching an Episode of 'It doesn't get better than this, strewth, mate" on 4WD 24/7 I started thinking of getting one.
I did a little research - you can get a small Ryobi one for around R2k - but I suspect you'd need something more substantial.
I had a little gardening to do, but eventually decided to hire a Petrol Powered one from my local tool hire place.
I collected it (12km round trip) R15.00
I dropped it off (12km round trip) R15.00
I paid for the hire (incl fuel & chain lube used) R648.00
That's R678.00 - & I did a days trimming (OK we loaded a4 ton truck piled high with the trimmings), but now sit with no Chainsaw.
For under R2k more I could bought one, done the job & although I'd be R2k moreout of pockets - I'd have a flippin Chainsaw.
Question:
Any advice & input into these rechargeable battery powered chainsaws?
Bear in mind I'm not a lumberjack, I'm not OK, I don't put on woman's clothing & hang around in bars & I don't wish I was a girlie like my dear mama...

When I checked the price excluded the charger and battery.
So it could be about R3k

Chainsaw, drill and grinder not weighing a ton with the same battery unit will be excellent addition to the 4x4 community..
The Chainsaws are usually 36volt & have very large batteries,
But a power driver/drill & a grinder with all 3, ideally, on the same battery would be awesome.

I didn't even know you got battery powered chain saws, but I do have a small electric one (220v), also Ryobi, and it's perfect for some DIY landscaping

Electric one would be awesome - it's the 20km long extension cord you'd need to carry that's an issue...

Is the whole thing 40cm, or just the blade?
If it's 40cm in total then a Pruning shear would be better...

Be a man, get am ax or petrol powered chainsaw - your fellow camping neighbours will love you for it and will make for hours of great campfire talks with them.

220v Chain saws are only 1000-2000W
so why not just run through an inverter
and cord off an aux battery with motor
running (as done with a winch)
Li Ion battery is probably significant initial
and replacement cost exposure as with other
hand held Li-Ion tools ...
Noting, as a club, we have an ongoing need
for wood which , with some planning, and
‘policy’ could largely be satisfied via an ‘in house’ saw and ... yes.. there is an occasional
need to cut branches/trees on trail routes
eg last year in prepping The Gorge.
If we cut trees for wood , suggest targeting
alien species of which there are many.

I have an electric chainsaw that I can run off an inverter.
Bought it years ago when they were felling a dead tree behind our town house, and spent around 5 days chopping up fire wood.
Rental was going to be more than double the price I paid for the saw
I see a battery powered chainsaw costs the same as an electric chainsaw + an inverter now.
Just go battery powered
