That is from one supplier only, unfortunately ventilators cost between 300-500K and from my experience Namibia’s MOH does not have sufficient funds

...Ive read some 40-50% of patients placed on ventilators will likely not survive, on average and full recovery from such ventilation can be months to years.
Given that many/most of those requiring such intensive treatment and support will be old dudes and those with other complicating factors ...
the path to survival and full recovery is a bit narrow.

See a ventilator as a F1 car, dropping off F1 cars everywhere will not help since there are not enough skilled drivers (medical staff) and you need a team to look after the car (ventilator and the patient)

Covid 19 patients develop ARDS, ARDS patients are $&@$& difficult to ventilate and many do not survive yes

Agree ... patient/s on ventilators tie up too much prof help-time and resources ... which , perhaps cruelly need be applied to where better recovery rates can be realised.
That said SA could probably do with more
AMBU ventilator bags that could facilitate
manual or basic mechanical assisted breathing
( without itubation .)
When more than that is needed ...
its too resource expensive...

PS. Ive always preferred downdraft carburation
to pressured fuel injection, turbo-charging etc
