CAR Magazine February 2021 issue:

A Red Yaris GR on the cover - 200kW

This is NOT a good issue for fans of the Great Toyota Brand!!! :o

They do 3 comparative tests.
Toyota does badly in two of them...

Review:
BMW iX 370kW EV that can do 600km & has an hexagonal steering wheel.

New Subaru BRZ (replacement of the previous 86/BRZ) - 2.4 liter 170kW motor & more torque is the major change.

There's an after-market all terrain Sorento - basically a Sorento with shit bolted on to it.

Upcoming Off Roaders: New Scorpio coming soon, Nissan Terra (X-Terra in some markets) by the end of the year...

History:
In 1978 Merc launched the first production TURBO DIESEL the 300SD.
It pushed out a whopping 85kW.

They drive that Yaris GR 200kW & 370Nm from a 3cyl 1.6 Turbo Petrol.

They also drive the Q7 - R1.3million

They take 3 SUV's on an 'Epic Drive' Jag F-Pace, Disco Sport & a Mazda CX-5 - all Diesel, all AWD...
The Mazda is half the Jag's price.

Then the TESTS:
New Fortuner 2.8 GD-6 4x4 VX AT versus Pajero Sport 2.4 D4 4x4 Exceed
The Fortuner is R100 000 more that the Pajero Sport.
They give the Fortuner 3.5 Stars & the Pajero 4 Stars.
Saying the Pajero is the better buy...

They compare a BMW X5 M50i to an X5 M Competition - I couldn't care less...

Then they compare the Toyota Starlet to the Suzuki Baleno.
In case you don't know - it's the same vehicle - EXACTLY.
They say buy the Suzuki it has a longer service plan.

There are other tests, the one of the Ford Tourneo Custom 2.0 SiT SWB is interesting.
They say rather buy the Kia Sedona or VW Kombi...

That's about it from our point of view.

What was the purpose of the article with the, F@kPace, the pretend Disco and the Mazda?
I’m sure the Mazda could do everything the other overpriced AWD’s could do, just a bit slower but for half the price ?? Don’t get the point of this?

Not surprised the Paj Sport came came up on-top even R100k cheaper but unfortunately when you try sell these cars in two years time, you’ll get R200k more for the Tuna

They say they wanted to compare the 3 premium AWD diesel SUV's.
They drove 700km through the Karoo

The Jag F-Pace 25d AWD Checquered Flag: 2,0D R1 182 800 177kW & 500Nm
The LR Disco Sport D180 R-Dynamic HSE R952 000 132kW $ 430Nm
(Why these two must have such long stupid names 'Checquered Flag Dynamic R is a mystery - it's all BS)
Mazda CX5 Tekna 2.2DE (the only one with the enginesize in the name).
The Mazda costs R666 100 & has 140kW& 450Nm - it is HALF the price of that crappy Jag...

They said the Jag was fantastic on the smooth top, but not great on rough roads, the Disco Sport was most accomplished, but you'd be a fool not to buy the Mazda & leave R300 000 in your account.

You'd need a very small penis in order to justify the R1.2bar for the Jag over the Mazda in my opinion...

That Mazda is very good value for money, if you are a mommy and your kids like soccer.

I was surprised at how well the Pajero Sport compared against the Fortuner. The only down side is that the Pajero is by FAAAR the ugliest of the bakkie-based SUVs on the market.

True.

I do prefer the Fortuner's (spit spit) conservative styling over the Pajero.

That’s right it was a Mazda egi - had one of those - exact same car - the beginning of their relationship which nearly killed Mazda

The PS does not have enough of those!

Seriously to me the Fortuner is downright ugly.

Extremely bad overbite feature with the nose hanging waaaay out there.
And then the 3rd window that was designed upside down. Its butt is nice though.

PS looks pretty from the side but front and back need some getting used to.
Toyota were quick to revise the front of the Hilux with a conservative version of the Triton.
Fortuner front taking a bit longer. Maybe it has already but I don't look at them because there are so many.....

Anyone looking to buy a new Fortuner is senile, take R700k and buy a second hand low km Prado.
More bang for buck and at least they’ll get some milfs. Manny?
