Terios vs Rush, Rush vs Avanza, Rocky vs Raise Rise? What!

Post by Mad Manny »

OK, stay with me as I explain...

Firstly - you need to be aware that Toyota wholly owns Daihatsu.

Right, so Daihatsu brought out a small SUV called the Terios (which was sold in SA).

The Terios was actually the replacement of the Rocky which replaced the Feroza.

Still with me?

Good.

Toyota took the Terios & re-badged it & sold it in certain markets as the Toyota Rush.

When the Terios was discontinued Toyota took an Avanza (which is really a Daihatsu Innova) & put some lipstick on it & called it the Rush.
As Daihatsu had left SA we got the Toyota badged Rush - it's crap.

Right, but Daihatsu was working on a real replacement for the Terios & launched the Rocky, reviving the old name.

Prof has one of the old original Rocky's.

Anyhoo, Toyota has again taken the Daihatsu (Rocky) & re-badged it as the Toyota Rise or Raize.

The Raise/Rise is available as 2WD & 4WD.

So, while to us in SA the Rush is hardly a replacement for the Terios, there is hope TSA launches the Raize/Rise here which will, in fact, replace the Terios.

Hope you managed to follow all that...

Looks pretty decent, perfect for a SWAMBO, but TSA never listen to the buyers and just give us what they think we want... so I doubt we will see it locally

Yes, it looks a lot like a Creta...

Here are more details...

https://www.autocarindia.com/car-news/d ... 019-414630

The new Daihatsu Rocky (Toyota Raize) compact SUV weighs 980kg and measures 3,995mm in length, 1,695mm in height, 1,620mm in width, and has a wheelbase of 2,525mm. The model is based on Toyota’s flexible DNGA platform that is aimed at emerging markets; this platform is essentially a low-cost version of the advanced TNGA modular architecture.

Under the hood, the new Rocky SUV comes with a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, 12-valve turbo-petrol engine that’s good for 98hp at 6,000rpm and 140.2Nm of torque at 2,400-4,000rpm. It will, initially, be offered with a CVT transmission. Both, the Rocky and Rise/Raize SUVs will be available with either a front-wheel-drive or a four-wheel-drive option at launch.

So the Rocky/Raize weighs 980kg, has 75kW @ 6000rpm and 140Nm from 2400 to 4000rpm
The Jimny weighs in at 1090kg, has 75kW @6000rpm and 130Nm @ 4000rpm but it has more than 120 from 3000 to 6000rpm.

So the Rocky/Raize/Rise can be viewed as a 4 door soft roader version of the Jimny in a way, but will perform better & use less fuel...

Interesting that the wheelbase is 20mm shorter than my SWB Pajero
Flex is overrated

I still can't find any evidence that this little SUV is coming to SA... but there are strong unofficial rumours...

You should be comparing it to the Ignis, not the Jimny.

I agree with SAXJ - the Raize/Rush/Terios is a platkar and cannot be compared to the Jimny.

It will probably perform better on-road, as it is intended, but off-road stands no chance against Live Axles, decent clearance and a proper 4wd system with low range.
I refuse to be POLITICALLY CORRECT to impress others - Deal with it
FLEX is UNDERRATED
