If you had to only replace shocks for better gravel road ability and comfort, what aftermarket shock would you say is the best one?

Bilstein KYB Koni all well priced and been around for yonks

For all terrain - Koni Heavy Tracks. They are adjustable, serviceable & are the best design.

Then there’s the Koni Raid, which are about the best money can buy.

Fox also good.

The best one is the one you can afford

Gabriel make a nice heavy duty shock. Only drawback that I have heard is that the rubbers don't last. Then I can make poly bushes and you have the best of both worlds.

I think you may want to reconsider stating that Koni Raids are about the best shocks money can buy. King, Öhlins and in general consumer grade Icon, Radflo, BP51 and even Fox bypasses are, to my mind at least and I suspect quite a few others', far superior to the Raids in all aspects.

Bang for buck is another story altogether.

There’s nothing to reconsider.

I never knew that Ohlins made 4x4 shocks so I’ll have to take your word that they even exist.

I wouldn’t touch the BP’s because they’re OME who are new to building top of the range shocks, especially with over 2 inch lifts. They should focus on getting there regular range to perform better.

Radflo & King are obviously very good performers but are too dainty & won’t be as robust as the Raid shocks. They’re also brands that you can’t just buy over the counter if you bugger one up. A mate of mine had a hard landing with a King coilover & oil started to piss out. Dunno if he got a replacement from the USA yet. Koni keeps lots of stock in SA.

Fox racing are great but yours truly managed to bend one, which wouldn’t have happened with a Raid.

Most of the top Dakar teams use the Raids.
