So with this lockdown being extended, and me stuck on the farm in Limpopo, I have to start earning some income. Creative Metals is now registered as an essential service provider for emergency repairs and maintenance.
Anybody in the 'greater' Hoedspruit area that needs some repairs, please contact me on 0827088048.

Jotto ... I see you are in Limpopo and your metal shops in Tokai ... but will put this up to show my thinking:
A guy on the other forum asked:
“What do you guys think of the spare wheel carriers on the rear of the Defender 130?
Some of the trips planned will require two spares and I dont really want to carry two wheels on the racks due to weight and space...”

and I replied :

I normally travel with 2 full spares , 1 in canopy, 1 on top ... not ideal.
(3 spares if I pull a trailer which has matching wheels and tyres)
... but a spare under canopy is far from ideal and Im looking at having two sturdy cnc brackets (>3mm ?) made and HT bolted to the 130s recessed back chassis face ... either side of the tow hitch and clear of the drop-down flap... then normal swing arm wheel holder arms would be attached that would close above the tow hitch...
... other aspects...
Would worsen the departure angle.
If brackets strong & sturdy enough
could be used as easy HLift jack points too.

I could make up a cardboard pattern with (bolt) holes and shape and dimensions etc and develop a reasonably accurate diagram as a draft spec
A)If you into CNC stuff you could refine it and return accurate diagram ...
B) you could propose quote
c) .. then once Lock Down over poss we could move ahead with small CNC cut , fold and weld job ...

Note You could charge me for A) and B) before I commit to execution in C)

What do you think or is this too small and complicated ?

Hi Bushwacker, thanks for that.
Yes indeed my shop is in Tokai, however, I am on our farm in Limpopo seeing as it has more space than my house in Tokai.
I now have the permit to work, but cannot travel a cross borders. I can CAD any parts necessary during this time luckily and have been busy designing new products and product lines for when we get out of this lick down.
I will look at the above requirement on my laptop tonight, seems interesting. Especially since there is a big yard full of Landrovers here to use as a base.
Cheers

... I would need to make up a cardboard ‘model ‘ first and then move to accurate pattern diagram with inside dimensions
which I could then send to you.
A Defender 130 has a bin that extends well beyond back of the chassis-face to which the tow hitch is attached ... so bracket would need be able to present an open face for the swing-arm to be mounted on ... clear of the back of the bin, the tow-hitch and the drop-down flap.

Will try come up with prelim diagram then maybe send you something, swop phone no’s and talk costs, details etc

Thanks, that would be great.
Something like this, but one that would handle the offset of the chassis-to-loadbin overhang. The swing arm and bushings will be easy to machine to fit such a bracket. The CNC lazer cut and CNC bending also not an issue.

Jotto ,
I need more of a box type bracket ...
... in my truncated photo that would just be the base plate for my bracket that would bolt onto the back chassis face which is recessed some 28cm from the end of my bin ... so I need a distorted box shape bracket extending as much as 40cm out from the chassis ...
but Ive got diagrams and photos etc so can I use whats app and send them ?

Thanks, you can email them to me - johannotto@creativemetals.co.za

I also saw a full rear bumper that bolts onto the 130 and thus comes out from under the load bin. Could be an option, just more steel and costs.

I don't want to hijack Jotto's thread, but was thinking (dangerous I know) that perhaps we could have an OT thread somewhere for members that are looking for a specific service, product etc.

Somewhere where they could ask and members who can assist could respond, possible by PM. Eg. I need a contractor, painter etc, I post and Manny could respond, same for plumbers, electricians etc.

I know it's not in keeping with the strictly on-topic nature of this forum, but it would be nice to be able to give work to a forum member, or refer some to them (or visa versa). To be clear, I'm not looking to pick up business for myself, but need a few things done, and would prefer to give the work to forum member.
