It’s relatively easy. Put the ignition on but don’t start the motor. Then sniff the exhaust to detect any signs of burning. Then open the bonnet & do the same at the air box intake.

You can also do a tongue test
If the exhaust tastes like your wife’s cooking, then it’s burnt
