"In The Gorge" at Lost Horizons

The route, In the Gorge, was developed by Anton Bodenstein, who is now an Action Group member, back in 2016.

It is a very challenging & tight route that follows the Hekpoort river & repeatedly crosses the river.
The track is seldom used & not very well known, but that will change as the 4x4 Action Group starts to promote & develop it.

The "In the Gorge" trail is situated in the Lost Horizons Resort which is also being developed.

The 4x4AG 2019 AGM will be held at Lost Horizon, so over 25% of club members will soon have seen the venue.

I will also be asking Flipside to host the 2nd Quarter Extreme Trail day there.

We are busy negotiating with the owner, but trail fees are expected to be R200 per vehicle. That's it.
Most other trails are R300 per vehicle & then have a charge for each additional person.
De Wildt, for example is R300 per vehicle with 2 people plus R80 for each additional person.
So a family of 4 with two teenage kids will pay R460
Other trails are not much cheaper...

Please note that the trail fees do not include entrance to the resort though... if you want to enjoy the resort facilities the normal day visitor charges will apply, but we will try negotiate a discounted rate...

There is no camping at Lost Horizons, but there is fantastic camping nearby at Weaver's Roost...

Pity. Maybe post that on the AGM Thread Bugger - I'm sure they'd like to know. Pity...

OK, so a convoy of TEN vehicles went through the track on Saturday.
AntonB in a KB, Outlaw Shaun in a pimped Rubi JKU, MartinDJ in a Fortuner, Flip in a Jimny, GarrethG in a Frontier, LX in a Hummer, Georg the German in his Triton, Avon in his JKU, Johannes in his V8 110 & me in Fearless...

The trail is tough, it's NOT De Wildt, it's closer to Moegatle or Att Se Gat...

It is also adviseable to break into groups of 4 to 6 cars max... if you are 7 or more - split the group....

We need your help, we will be putting up lots & lots of signage in the next few months...
If you want to sponsor a sign, you'll get the bottom section to place your advert.

But we need OLD Used SCrap Car Parts; cranks, engine blocks, steering racks, complete wheels, Pistons etc...
Juan Moolman came up with the idea of placing parts @ appropriate obstacles & naming the obstacle accordingly.
For example: Piston Slap Slide, or Crankcase hill, or Side Shaft turn.
So please, if you have parts lying around, contact me.

I have a 16" Nissan something rim that is gathering dust under a work bench somewhere in my garage. You can have that. Might have a Jimny propshaft spare - will have to check that though
Cheese, canals and mud. Flattest country in the world. Wish they had 4x4'ing here

Manny - if doing this trail what are the things to consider to assist with getting through? MT? Lift? Diff lock? Etc.

You don't need SFA but it will help.
The bigger your rig the more you need.
So if you have a new Jimny you just need bigger AT tyres.
But the bigger you are the more you need.

A LC200 & an Amarok are too big.
