There’s nothing wrong with Forums. They are still extremely popular all over the world. WhatsApp is not an alternate as far as I’m concerned, but rather a tool that can compliment a Forum. Depends on your needs. FB is also a great tool, but no better than a proper forum.

But there are forums that loose their way & have other priorities.

I think there will always be a place for forums.

Facebook/whatsapp might be great, but try search for something that was posted a few months ago. At least with a forum all is still there to search as long as the forum keeps running.
Sadly don't own an offroader. It's too flat living on a small island.

On a forum you can always refer back, like a database of information. WhatsApp is an”instantaneous” message system so it will never replace a forum. Facebook is too “commercial”

I find face book irritating. No structure compared to a forum.

Not surprising that our only Thread* that is not 4x4 related was started by a 4x2 driver...

any forum lives or dies from it's moderation.

there are plenty of facebook groups and WhatsApp groups that just fall apart because whoever is in charge gets to decide on the content.

I got kicked off a foodie group because I expressed an opinion about a food critic that the fag in charge didn't like.

I got kicked off a land rover page because apparently TDV6 cranks don't really break.

I resigned from a popular forum recently because I felt the moderator in chief had become a monstrous Richard Cranium.

but years later I'm still a member of many groups and clubs because I get a lot of value from them.

those that offer value - whether forums like this, or facebook groups, or whatsapp groups or instagram groups or whatever will always flourish while people get value from it.

If I want a chat about 4x4 stuff, then I'll find a place that chats about 4x4s and offers some intellectual conversation. if it degenerates into google experts and wheelbarrow upgrades, then I'm gone.

but there is always a place for a good chat .

Video didn't kill the radio star. Over-moderation did.

Well at least in my case it did.

Thys, your exodus played a big part in me leaving a particular forum, the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak.

I blame myself for not doing it earlier.

Did you see my swan song thread?
It did not last very long
Could this be sarcasm?
