Why do we even have right hand drive vehicles?

Why?
Surely having left hand drive only makes more sense? We would have a lot more vehicle choices if we did.
Yes. It would be a nightmare trying to change, but it makes me wonder who the dumb ass was that decided we need right hand drive cars

First thing that springs to mind is trying to overtake someone.

Thatβs why I said it would be a nightmare to try and change.

Oh were you also suggesting a change to where we drive, RHS versus LHS?
Then there is zero chance

Yeah
It would have to be a complete overhaul.
Practically impossible
But why RHD then? Whole bright idea was that?
Let me Google

75% of the world is LHD.
25% is RHD...
Some countries did change, but that was years ago.
Moz for example, drove on the continental right.
But because all the colonies around it drove on the left, they changed.
A few other countries also changed.
Would be impossible to change now as youd need to redo the road sign and markings and traffic lights.
Then you need to offer a trade in incentive plan
Would cost billions and result in chaos and deaths...

Year ago (mid eighties) I read an article in Finans & Tegniek about some African Country that received a fleet of buses from China. When the minister of transport was driven on the first trip and the bus stopped at the venue where he was supposed to announce the new service, they realized the passenger door was on the right. This would obviously cause havoc if passengers had to get in and out in the middle of the street, but they could not give the busses back without offending the Chinks.
A law was passed to change from driving on the left to driving on the right hand side of the road and to make it easier for the populace, it was decided to phase in the change over a period of several months, with heavy vehicles required to change over first!
