I am amazed that the Hilux sells anything apart from in SA?

The Germans are doing well with the Rok/Merc. Didn't expect them to have a 16% share

I’m also surprised by the Merc sales. Then they are likely to still increase. That’s 2665 units in 3 months.

Nearly 40% of Euro bakkie sales are Japanese.
Whilst the Europeans barely match that figure.

Rather a poor show by Europe.

Renault did well.... off a very low base.

For every Renault sold Honda sold 102 vehicles...

This is where Renault were clever. There just owned some Jap companies [emoji41].

But Jap brands are not subjected to heavy import duties in Japan. Hence why they sell so well. Says nothing about what’s better.

Google tells me that Japan has a population of 129 million. That is 70 million more than SA or almost half.

Yet they sell so much more vehicles than SA. The top 10 on Manny's list sells a combined 4,2 million vehicles.

SA's top 10 for 2017 sold about 100K vehicles between them. Huge difference.

Seems like the Japanese drives a vehicle for a year or two and then they buy a new one. Their second hand market must be flooded

But we also strip vehicles (mostly Hilux and Frotunas) and ship them into Africa

And they send their "grey" imports into Africa as well. Most of the cars on the roads in Namibia/Botswana/Zambia, etc are 2nd hand Jap imports

But the space they can move in is three time smaller than SA

Imagine the traffic jams in the Karoo, Tankwa & Richtersveld
