VW & JAC bakkie venture

Back in 2016, VW had agreed a joint venture with JAC to build bakkies.
They are available in SA now & not bad by the looks of it.
The venture looks like it’s worked in refining the 2.0 tdi in the Amarok. Here is their version with the welcome addition of an engine cover.

Chinese State-owned company in bed with Navistar with only 30 odd dealerships and a 4x4 with only 100kW.
You'd have to be Hunter tight to buy one....

So true, for another R135 000 you could buy the Hilux with 10 kw more

, but no locker.
Why do you Toyota guys need so many dealerships? Do they pack up that often?

Excuse me. Don't be daft
They need so many dealerships because I can't drive from Cape Town to Upington without either the FJ or theGX needing a service.

I think dealerships are also used for regular services & maintenance.
If the closest dealership is 130km away its an issue.
With few exceptions, I generally would stay away from a brand with less than 40 dealerships & less than a 20 year presence in SA.

I agree with "less than 20 years presence" in the country ! You do not service every month, so , for services not too big an issue , unless you stay really far away like Grips. Or if you do around 20 000 km a month ???

I’m seeing loads of these JAC’s all over the show lately. I spoke to a guy at Builders who has bought 3 of them so far without any complaints yet.
Dealers are popping up all over. There’s 3 within a 15km radius.
It’ll be interesting to see how they develop in such a competitive & crowded market.

It may have an engine cover, but can it out-reverse an amarok?

Actually the 1.9 doesn’t have an engine cover, just like the Amarok
