At Jotto's Service....

Friday afternoon, the day is done, time to Chillax. Tough week behind me.

My phone Rings - it's Jotto.
"Howzit Johan Wasssup?"

"I need the Forum's help - DM was in an accident - rolled his car.
He & his daughter have been rushed to hospital.
His wife, C, is on the scene, alone.
I need someone who lives near Gordon Rd to get out there & assist."

I tell Jotto that I'm the closest person to Gordon Rd.
He sends me the details, I eventually get hold of C.
They were heading to Potch, had just passed the Gordon Rd Offramp when the vehicle rolled.
They have people en route & all Emergency Services are on the scene.
But they need someone with a bakkie to come fetch all the stuff.

I jump in my work bakkie & head out.
Traffic is backed up, from the accident scene between Gordon Rd & Maraisburg Rd all the way back, past Beyers Naude to Malibongwe Rd.
From the Gordon Rd on Ramp, traffic is heavy, crawling along.
I get down the on ramp, push through to the right hand lane.
Then, as the grass starts I drive in the right emergency lane & head to the scene.

The various Traffic officials wave me through.
I stop at the scene. That vehicle was so badly crumpled I couldn't even tell what it was.
How they got out alive I have no idea! They are busy pulling it onto a flatbed.

I load all their stuff on the back of my bakkie & fill the front with the valuable bags etc.
So much stuff I could barely change gear.

Friends of DM & C arrive.

A cop comes up & asks if we can please move away asap as they want to get the traffic going.

I tell everyone to go, take the Maraisburg off ramp & stop where it's safe on the left.

We meet up off Maraisburg Rd.

C tells me a women changed lanes into them, DM swerved to avoid her hit the Amco barrier & rolled.
Within seconds people arrived & tipped the vehicle onto the wheels so they could get their daughter, who was trapped, out.
Their daughter hurt her foot, DM has an injured shoulder. C is unscathed.

They decide to go to Flora Clinic to see if they can collect DM & Daughter.
I head back home with my fully loaded pickup.

Must say, some motorists are a bit thick, responders were outstanding. Even Gauteng Traffic & JMPD etc.
A lady who saw the accident reported it & then ran down the embankment to assist - amazing

I have withheld the names of DM & C, but they are well known in 4x4 circles.
I'll let Jotto or them decide if they want their identities made public.

First responders and community assist programs are top notch, at least in the Centurion/Midrand area but I wouldn't be surprised anywhere else. I barely respond anymore because I know when I get there, there are like 10 more higher trained people already on scene within minutes. Even Police and Metro work well with the responders.

It used to be such a political/brand game, now its just "lets be better". Sounds like a good as can be outcome for a terrible situation.
Nice work Manny.

I looked at the vehicle, champagne in colour, for a few seconds, but have no idea what it was, and I know cars well.
There was just no part that wasn't damaged that I could use to identify it....

Must have been something big considering it had enough space for 3 people and a Bakkie load of crap, plus the 8 bags I had to squeeze into my cab, plus a few items C took with her...

Thank you so much Manny!!
The forum to the rescue again. It is great to be part of a family that can jump in at a moment's notice to assist a fellow member. Throughout the whole scenario Manny kept us informed and was in constant contact with C.

D has a broken shoulder and is being transfered to Midstream to be operated on.

The vehicle was a Honda BRV.

Am sure we can all chat lekker about the awesome forum on my new shop's Open Day sometime in March - more details to follow.

Thanks a gain Manny, super star!
