We should all follow the example of the tobaco industry

I was pleasantly surprised this afternoon, habbit dictates that I often buy 3 packets of cigarettes after work as it works out to just under a hundred rand, just enough change for the carguard!
So after paying 1% more for everything already today I fully expected to now be subsidised by the car guard in stead
The friendly cashier handed me the normal change and when questioned she pointed to big red stickers stating β No price increaseβ
What is this Tomfoolery? Is it the tobaco industry showing up the government? Or is it just one step by a rogue industry showing that they care more for the consumer than any other industry?

Even at R100 for a pack of 20 it would still be a bargain

I remember years ago my dad said to me:"The day a pack costs R10 will be the day I quit smoking"
He still smokes.

Some retailers has absorbed the VAT increase.
RRP is the same, price ex VAT has changed.

I have very limited experience in the retail world but I guess some retailers regard smokes and booze as loss leaders most of the time?

When a pack of ciggies approached R1,00 (one Rand

) I said the same !!! But it's all relevant - I now earn a 100 times what my salary was at the time when a pack of smokes used to cost R0,30. It is now around R30,00 - go figure!

My quote was based on my own limited knowledge of appliance trade. Most of our prices stayed the same.
