Rant about campsites

#1

Post by Mike Nel »

This really grinds my tits. And it's not just one or two campsites that does this. It's almost all of them.

We supposed to be camping this weekend. Weather looks kak with plenty of rain predicted. Like in plenty.

Phone the campsite to ask if we can postpone and get a credit. We don't want a refund, just a credit for a later stage. No sir. You will forfeit moneys paid.

I can understand if they do this when weather is good.

You see, Chalets and lodges are better and you don't need to buy the R250k worth of "glamp stuff".

And I'm not even talking about the cost of a BL Ratel. I'm just talking about the extras. The BL is probably another R500k?

Sorry I have to strongly disagree with you. You paid for that date, they set out a campsite for you, maybe even had to show business away for your stand, then the weather changes, and you don't want to come that given date.

There are excuses where it might justify having to move the date(heart attack or something almost serious), but having SA weather, normally it only rains half a day, and well, even if it rains all day, braai with an umbrella.

There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad preparation.
It's all relative...

We booked to go to Kyleu Lodge two weeks ago.

MartinDJ was also booked there, purely co-incidentally - we didn't see one another.

LesseW was also supposed to go.

The weather showed a very high chance of rain, Saturday was around 90%.

As a result of the weather predictions Wessel cancelled, he, like Mike Nel, is a Woke Millenial with a Bush Lapa.

However we still went as did Martin - we are campers - not weather fearing BushLapa owners.

However, I think Wessel got refunded as Kyleu had someone keen on his spot.

Maybe Bush Lapa's are the problem.

Or guys who buy Bush Lapas are soft.

Or Wessel and Mike are Girlie-Men.

If I owned a venue I wouldn't allow cancellations after 7 days to check in.

I am with Manny here. This last year, with all the rain, has been very difficult from a camp perspective. We've camped in the rain virtually every single camp we've been on - bar the camp we had at Moegatle last weekend where the weather was absolutely fantastic. And this has been either camping with the roof top tent, or with the XT565. No creature comforts like BushLapas...

Way I see it, camping in the rain still trumps a sunny day in Pretoria any day...

I won't even mentioned the absolute deluges of rain every occasion I've camped at Mlilwane in Swaziland. :)

As to the point about refunding people, I think most spots have very definite guidelines on what their refunds policy are.

Manny, I know you fathered many children in your Family’s fruit and veg shop, but have you ever raised a child with your “chip” frier Eunice? You should’ve supported her Manny….

Children are easy but also difficult… I refuse to camp with children in the rain, it keeps me sane…

Sure it didn’t rain Martin although several apps and websites predicted that it will….

I'd rather trust my apps and websites than arrive at a place pissing with rain all weekend…

I agree with you Wessel.
Your statement proves my Theory:
Just like the Israelite's were never in Egypt & never built the Pyramids,
the Afrikaners never did the Great Trek.

The only way the Groot Trek could have happened is if the English built the N1 1st with a B&B placed at the end of every days travel.
The Afrikaner is too soft to rough it.
Prove me wrong...

So we went camping in the rain. More than 50% of the campsites were empty. Nice little money making scheme. Might as well call every campsite that operate like this the ANC. Happy to take your money.

Anyways back to the camp.

Friday was terrible. Sun shone. Kids were playing outside. We could braai, drink beer. Terrible

Saturday it rained the whole day. It’s moerse lekker fun trying to play Jenga, Uno, Snap, Pick Up sticks, Dominos with a 4 year old. It’s like having a conversation with Manny. Moerse lekker. Did I mention we couldn’t braai because it rained.

Today we had to pack up camp in the rain. Again. Great fun. I just unpacked a wet Ratel. Great fun Manny. Great fun.

Anyways. Can’t wait for my next wet camping weekend. Surely I’m about 2 of those away from receiving my revoked man card back again 😜🤣
