Thanks Andreas. The flowers are apparently amazing - I just hope they last until we get there. I believe there have been reports of hot (berg??) winds there which normally start heralding the end of the flower season. So I hope we are in time.

Now THAT is a trip Elbie and I need to do.

I know Red Sands has chalets: please keep an eye out for decent chalets on your route for me?

Jakes,

I've done a similar route to this several times before, so I actually already know where the accommodation is...

1: Red Sands has decent chalets.
2: Augrabies has decent chalets. There is also an excellent guesthouse in Augrabies Village which is owned by friends of mine.
3: There are plenty chalets / guesthouses in Niewoudtville.
4: There are no chalets in the coastal section of the Namaqua National Park. There are chalets in the "Skilpad Restcamp" of the National Park, but that is quite far away. There is a very basic art/deco chalet thing close to the Groenriviermond gate. Details on that here: https://www.lekkeslaap.co.za/accommodat ... ommodation
5: Hondeklipbaai has plenyy chalets / guesthouses. Last trip I did there, we stayed at "Honne-Hemel - Bachus" - which was excellent and only cost about R200 per person per night. For a massive place with views of the bay, two different entertainment areas etc. I would have stayed there again this time around if our group were a little smaller. Details on that here: https://www.booking.com/hotel/za/honne-hemel.en.html
6: Klein Pella has a camp-site and a guest house.

The coastal section of the park is relatively short and one can easily get through it in a day. So you can always make use of the art-deco place and drive through the park to Hondeklipbaai.

The big thing though: for me, there is nothing like camping in the coastal section of the Namaqua park. But camping is the only option.

Isn't that "Learn to be camp, princess Manny"?

I used to camp. It would cost me more to kit myself up to a decent standard than the cost of chalets for the rest of my life.
Only dogs sleep on the ground and crap on the ground.

I get MAYBE 1 week a year for a holiday: no way I want to suffer with pitching tents and blowing up matresses and sharing an ablution with some porra.

Jakes, luckily we differ, we will be camping at Kyleu in the Dinokeng, feel the soil of the earth between your toes, listening to Jackal calling, Lions throttling their pray , nothing beats that. We camp again the 23rd September this time in open unprotected setting, knowing wild animals can visit you any minute.

I was robbed in a chalet at Red Sands at the start of the Yee Haw Ramble in 2015.
This despite a double electric fence around the resort.
Another couple in the group had their tent slashed open.
Personally, I would give this place (and the whole of Kuruman) a wide berth

Woolf - I think this was probably in 2016. Perhaps I'm wrong and don't have my photos available to check - It could be 2015?? No idea.

This was the same year we were robbed in Kuruman on the way to the Patrol Dune thingy. I think it was WarMedic whose tent was cut open. I was robbed in Kuruman proper - not Redsands - we pushed through to Transboegoe that trip.

I despise both Kuruman and Vryburg. But security since at Redsands has been upped quite a bit. It is my general stop-over on the way West. I have been there many, many times since then without incident.

The Yee Haw Ramble was in September 2015

Yee Haw Ramble 2015
Introduction:
The 4x4 Action Group, in conjunction with the Suzuki4x4 Club, is pleased
to launch the Yee Haw Ramble.
In February, Raymond (Dude1978 ) lead a group comprising of Rowan,
Monty, Carl & Boskoets to reccie & document the route.
The trip is named in honour of the Donkey Boskoets fell in love with on the trip.
Raymond (Dude1978 ) Rowan, Monty, Carl & Boskoets are therefore the
founders of this exciting new fixture.
This trip will be an annual event, the trips will be arranged exclusively by
the Suzuki4x4 Club & the 4x4 Action Group.
2015 Trip: When: 24 - 27 September 2015
Where: Meet up at Red Sands outside Kuruman
Who: Any member of Suzuki 4x4 Club &/or the 4x4 Action Group
Group Size: Restricted to 18 vehicles max.
Cost: R150.00 per vehicle
Account Details: Use the 4x4 AG account.
Reference: Your Forum name + YHR
EG: BoskoetsYHR
Other Details:
The trail leaders make up 4 vehicles, that leaves only 14 spaces.
7 spaces are reserved for Suzuki4x4 & 7 for the 4x4 Action Group.
You need to be 100% self sufficient, note that this is a ‘boskak’ trail.
The chances of vehicle damage (scratches) is high.
You may not litter, nothing except tyre tracks may be left behind.
Trail Leaders instructions must be adhered to.
The Donkey's WILL keep you awake at night.
Everyone travels together at all times.
If you are not a 4x4 Action Group or Suzuki4x4 club member you have
two options:
* Make sure one of your passengers is a member &....

Thanks Manny. 2015 then. I stand corrected. The good doctor's memory is obviously better than mine... :)
