Now wait a minute there Rechardt.Lots of very sage advice but you don’t want to throw a Land Rover into the mix. That will make all the other spanners in the works seem totally insignificant.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I've got three goals for this year.

1: Get out camping more often.
2: Make my Namibia trip happen.
3: Forget about the utter massive crap that has happened in the last four years and worry about the stuff I can actually control.

My life lesson to my kids: worry about the stuff you can control, makes plans for the stuff you cannot. Like the cANCer and loadshedding.

When 2023 started I set myself goals, to continue and enjoy life.
I have seen more that the club is moving towards over-landing and camping, and less to just plain 4x4 driving short routes. Choices we all make.
I joined the Hankook 4x4 series this year. Continuing the experience of Bridgestone.
We started at Rebel 4x4 Muldersdrift grounds, I came sixth, had some technical issues on the Jimny.
Round 2 was held at Rust de Winter, the gymkhana track, wow some challenging obstacles, very competitive, against, all types of 4x4's.
This is part of a series of event taking us all over Gauteng. It is based on fun, less rules, open to everyone.
On the 27th May we will be driving round 3, at Steineck lodge near Rusternburg. This is a great group of people, main organisers being Rebel 4x4 group.
Apart from that we camped 3 times in the Dinokeng, we joined the kids on a Caravan weekend, focused on 4x4's at Kruger ranch, and last I joined Bosryers a Youtube channel for some serious fun at Basslake.
If more people are interested to join the series, your welcome. just make it happen.

2: Make my Namibia trip happen.
And...?
Manny - whilst I appreciate the concern, it's really not going to happen. There are various reasons for this, but probably the most major one is time. I am off the crutches and hobble around on the moon-boot awesomely. I drive my truck. Cannot drive the LF's ASX because the pedals sit a little close together. But I've got a week or so to go in the moonboot. After that there are more X-Rays and only then will I know if we're looking at operations or whatever.

I can drive and stuff now. At a pinch, Liana could also have driven large stretches. But Liana can not grind and weld or fit second roof top tents etc. And since the packing system build I was busy with when I broke my foot is not yet done and would be required, we're out of time.

So I've called it a day on the Nam trip for this year. I'll make that happen in '24. Life happens.

In the meantime, I've put together a trip to Namakwaland for end August / early September. :)

Get things done on my to do list:
  • Front recovery points (reinstall)
  • Anderson plug for air compressor
  • Sort out recovery track bracket for roof rail
  • Solutions for water on the Fortuner
Trips:
  • Fraser Island
Mods:
  • Rock sliders. Not sure if I'm ready to DIY this again
  • Perhaps a 2 Inch lift
Stock up on alcohol to celebrate the Springbok Rugby World Cup victory in France on the 28th of October
Thought I'd come have a look at what I said about 2023 before I answer the 2024 thread. [viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1891&start=15]

From now on you can sommer call me Sienner or Redstradamus
