I think it is good if there is play in such a "shelf" then you can "stuff it" like with sleeping bags and 3 layer outdoor jackets etc.
A solid shelf would have things sliding about, and rattling

For me the shelve answers a question that wasn't really asked...

It's got a rail in the front as well which adds to the rigidity and stops items from flying to the front when braking hard (lack of minibus taxi's means that not a lot of harsh braking is required )

The elastic one will work great as well (Thanks Manny, shared the info with BIL as he is looking for something like this).

A bit of a long post to describe a simple bag, but here it goes...

I was looking for a waterproof bag to place valuables in when we go out on the water. Now there are various products on the market to help keep water out of individual products, but I was looking for a single bag where I can just chuck my valuables in and it would keep it nice and dry.

I came across a company that make exactly the bag I was looking for [NT Unofficial]. To be honest I have seen similar products in South Africa, however none where so thoughtful when it came to the branding of their bags. Apart from being bright orange (being a man I tend to overlook items right in front of me when I search for it), it also makes reference to one of Australia's best areas to explore, the Northern-Territory, or as most Australians call it (NT).

They then combined it with one of the most used phrases in Australia; "See ya" (short for "see you"). This is the way that most Aussies will say goodbye. "See ya mate". This can also be written in textese as CU. So if you would to say your goodbye to an Aussie that is on his way to explore the vast wilderness of the Northern Territory, you will say; "See ya in the Northern Territory" or in textese as "CUinNT"

Now I thought that this was extremely thoughtful and combining it with a waterproof bag that I really needed, it was a no brainer for me to place my order. And look what arrived in the mail yesterday. Could not be happier

But what came to my attention is how well this bag (and the farewell message that is linked with it) will go with a very popular saying in South Africa (especially on forums).

When someone tells me they are heading out I can simply reply: "Good for you sir, see you in the Northern Territory". (GFYS CUNT)

The Ausies will put a bull bar on anything. I've seen bull bar's on XTrails, Rav4s, Sportages and even on Nissan Navara's

Then there's the following design. Must admit not the prettiest of sites to behold.




But after spending some time over here I can understand why some opt for the above design. These little bastards are everywhere. Especially around dawn. Had a few near misses myself so I can fully understand why some guys will opt to put a reinforced farmgate on the front of their vehicles.

Found additional use for my rear shelf. Two bungee cords on the bottom makes for the perfect place to keep my hat. Out of sight behind the headrest without being squashed
