Ok Hope have original Tyres on from the factory

Wrangler 215 Sr 15

3 options I'm looking at

Wrangler and Dunlop R1865 each

Or Maxxis
215/75R15 AT980E @ R3078 incl

Excluding fitment balancing etc

I'm liking the Maxxis as it is more off road related
All though more expensive
Let's hear your thoughts

If I cant get General Grabbers I would go for Wranglers

On my Syncro I got Wrangler

If this is for the new trailer, I'd ultimately look at trying to keep the same tyres / diameters between the trailer and the tow vehicle. Presumably not always possible or feasible.

Horses for courses. Think about what you going to do with the trailer. Consider weight, speed on highway and then what type of terrain you will tow in off road. Then decide on a tyre that covers all bases.

My old bus had the Wranglers on it, the so-called kevlar side walls. Have never had as many punctures as I did with them, especially on the side walls.

The Touareg has got 255/18's CST Sahara the Maxxis brand on.

I was thinking of going slight wider to a 225/15


But what I have learned from my Syncro I had 215 and gone to 245
And the loss in Power was amazing

If I knew this I would have returned to 215 and not 245


Now the question is that if I go to a wider tyre would there be any Off road Advantage

There will defnitly be more drag that could cause lots of negatives eg fuel consumption etc



The trailer was built on 215/15
So worked for 20 years why fix something that Eint broken?

Stick to 215's, a wider tyre may catch.

Remember a trailer tyre does nothing but rotate, it doesn't drive, or steer, it doesnt need extra grip, it seldom gets a puncture (unless a nail hits it).
So there is no advantage to going wider.

You dont need a wider or more aggressive tyre.
Keep the weight down.

Gearless has 245/75 15's.
But Gearless, as on that Bots trip, was at 1450kg+
On normal weekend trips it is at 1250kg.

215 is fine for you.
AT is fine.

Little point in trailer spec tyres
geared for greater challenges
than Amarok could conceivably expose them ?

So best to stay 215
Will get most probably the Good Year Wrangler

Erin mentioned he had no lock with them
But on my Syncro I have had them in bad Rocky sharp edges situations and many trips without any punctures
So are happy with there performance
