Best Hard Shell Cooler Box

For the smaller 'day Tripper' coolers I generally prefer the soft cooler bags.
But they are no good for carrying ice.

I have an old Collman cooler that can just fit a 6 pack - too small.

So I'm looking for a slightly larger cooler - hard shell.

Stanley has one on special, for R2 500.

What other options (with prices) are there?

There is just one! Römer!

I personally had mine about 4 years now. Did Carnage Canyon and Rivertrip this year as a test with 8kg of dry ice, one bag of ice on top to prevent frost bite to the meat. 5 days before any ice started to melt!

Also use it in my Platkar if we tour. 3 days ice retention without hassle. Strong enough to stand/sit on. Well priced and seals well. 10/10 in my books.

40l is my preference.

And yes I have a Snomaster fridge, but hassle of checking batteries etc… Weekends I just use the Römer and vacuum seal the meat…

I've got the 65L which works great. Dry ice for longer trips, and one or two frozen ice blocks (2L ice cream tubs, or is it 1.8L thanks to the sugar tax?). The only down side of this box is the size. A little bit bulky for short use, and if you take it to a braai, strangers will tend to use it as a chair due to it's size...

As mentioned above the 40L is a great size for short trips or for keeping the beer cold close to the braai. +-R2'100 on Takealot.
