Discussion: Events Calendar

#1

Post by Mad Manny »

I've long wished for one central 'Calendar' for ALL 4x4 events & happenings.
Even closed events or events by a certain club.

There are certain events groups on Facebook, but Fakebook is a useless reference source.
Besides, many people are not on Fakebook.

Recently I heard from Erno that he had enjoyed the Rust De Winter Jamboree - I didn't even know about it!
I would have loved to participate. I heard attendance wasn't great (140 entrants - down from over 200 in the past).

I'd like for us to have an 'Upcoming Events' section on this Forum.
Make it a 'sticky'.
Get someone to manage it.
Basically anyone can post their upcoming event.
The 'Manager' then adds it to post #1 (in chronological order).
Once the event has come & gone the 'Manager' deletes it - so only upcoming events are listed.

Example of events:
Rust De Winter Jamboree (last weekend)
Burn Run (was this weekend)
4WDCSA events
LROC events
ATV events
Etc.
Casual outings
Etc.

If events are CLOSED, the people posting can indicate such.

What do you guys think?

Do I have a volunteer to manage it?

This is a good idea. I can't believe the RDW Jamboree for example wasn't known to most people I spoke to. It was a huge event.

Rust de Winter started to limit entrants which is much better and days not that long.

It was awesome though

Yes ... good idea.
I could post forthcoming events for the LROC & FWDCSA.,
but it should be stressed that such events may be restricted to existing or prospective members of those clubs in line with such clubs policy etc
ie some events might be closed to outsiders.

I recently attended the Cars in the Park function
at Zwartkops and kept a list of the many attendant clubs and their contact details ... copy sent to Manny
and I can also post here ?

Thank you Ian.
I was hoping that Chas would volunteer.

It's just manage the 1st post.
Others will contribute events.

Chas keeps me informed of many upcoming events.

Yes, as I said in Post #1, Closed Events should still be posted but the postor must indicate (Closed Event).
You could maybe invite LROC & 4WDCSA to post directly here.

Yes … I will do best to keep keep such table/calendar updated but stress its best to structure it so that
it doesnt result in imposition to the other clubs
closed or limited events etc …
eg wouldnt want Toyotaholics crashing into events
restricted to members of a FAR more exclusive club …

Yes Chas. We get it. We really do. Closed means closed. Noted.

I would post CLOSED events as it 'warns' others you will be at that venue on that date.

So If you have a CLOSED event at, say Rust De Winter, then it would warn others to, perhaps, not book at that venue over that time.

The 4x4 Action Group generally books the whole venue, but, take our Ladies Training Day, had we known the Holics were going that day we would have changed venues or cancelled.

So it benefits ALL if ALL events CLOSED or OPEN are posted here.

I trust we've now laboured the CLOSED event point enough?

I would like to see all events even closed ones. If a closed event really interests me, I would want to find out how to be invited next time.

I've created a sticky under the Events Calendar section.

Link to it is here: viewtopic.php?f=45&t=1561

If there are things missing from that list, please let me know.

For each event in the sticky, can we not also include
- a link for further info
- who the organizing club / forum is
- whether closed or open

Some events work better if not too large (even if open)
E.g. the more "hardebaard" stuff works better with say 5 vehicles rather than 20.
It should be perfectly acceptable to whoever organizes something to state whether it is fully subscribed or not.
