Shocking ! Sad.
Everone here makes a valid point .
We stayed on the north coast before the beach ban driving. It was great .
Then the holidays came , it was chaos !!
If you dare reprimand or tell someone not to act like a idiot , they gang up on you and get very aggresive !! We even reported bad behavior . They just pay the fine and carry on ??
Now , no more beach driving ??

Leon , i do not approach these guys anymore . Not worth it . Long story :?

I have driven Matroosberg, it will be sad when that gets closed because of idiots, juppies and spoiled brats. This is one of the best outings in the Cape.

Clubs need integrate and ensure good routines eg
Register & establish good comms w venue owners
Take out what we take in ( rubbish)
Leave only footprints ( … in right places ! )
Limit/Curb disruptive/intrusive Noise/Light etc etc
Read/acknowledge & Respect their local rules
Follow up after for feed-back from venue
Etc etc

Build club reputation and earn respect.

Nice sentiment. Except there is currently no demand that you join a club.

Port Nolloth white dunes fenced in. Were the little Namib in SA.

Some very nice 4x4 trails that closed down in our area. Thanks to Tappit behavior.

The very reason why I do not do trips with local Clubs and Groups anymore.

You will never find me without Stroh or a 4x4 :D

The biggest problem we face is, that it is apparently fashionable to be Tappit and Kommen :P

The problem with this Thread, as can be seen by all the replies thus far, is we are preaching to the converted.

Bit like Squirrel Phalaposa talking about GBV in English & not in the language of the transgressor.

To get this message out you need to discuss this on the Social Media (FB, WA, etc.) That is a breeding ground for these groups....

Manny, a judge once famously wrote that you can sanction pub fights with the death penalty and it will still occur.

My point being there is no way we would ever be able to convert tappets to responsible 4x4'ers.

Best thing to do, like with most tappets, is to ban alcohol completely from any trail. Brandewyn and tappets more often than not go hand in hand with one another. That should be the focus.

To that point, you will be amazed at how many GP or NW* number plate drivers I have seen driving along the Nam coastline, at 8am, with red eyes and a beer or dopglas in hand.

That would put most Pretoria trails out of business. Imagine De Wildt 4x4 or Hennops without drunk tappits......

And let's not get started about their tappet recreation vehicle of choice: the MODIFIED QUAD BIKE.

Whilst I've see bad behaviour on many occasions, I must say it is generally not outrageous & not as frequent as made out.

I have done about 60 different trails over the past 12 years..
Some of them more than once (Berakah 5 times, Moegatle about 7, De Wildt about 15 times & 3 Provinces 3 times etc.).
So, maybe about 120 outings.
I can count the times I've seen Suipery/Dumbassery/Disgusting behaviour on my fingers.
In most cases, alcohol was involved. In fact, in all cases.

In many cases, the idiots are just harming themselves & I just go a different route or pass them when possible.
It's often not my problem.

However, there have been cases where the behaviour affected me or was by members of the group I was in:
One example:
I did 3Provinces once where the Twit in Charge said "You can have a drink or two at lunch time, but no hard tack."
By lunch some of the guys were well oiled.
I;ll never forget a guy offering his brannas to a girl in a Jeep & handing it to her through the window.
He didn't realise the window was only half open, hit the bottom of the glass on the window, pouring the contents on her lap.
Only 2 or 3 of the group attempted Helshoogte (the rest weren't there to 4x4, clearly).
The Twit in Charge had to recover my right at the top , but was too fitshaced to operate his winch properly.

Another example:
I saw guys, Rafiki 4x4 iirc, do a simple obstacle (short very steep climb) that you can easily do calmly with no wheel spin.
They went up with maximum windgattighied, spinning & creating dust & drama.
When they got to the top they jump out screaming 'Whoop whoop!' while the rest clapped & cheered.
Other than the dust & delay, they irritated me, but had little other affect on my life.
I then drove up the incline slowly (in Eurard's Triton) & got to the top.
They saw this & sheepishly got in their bakkies & screamed off.

A third example:
Hennops. We met up with Suip en Druif Tappits.
Drunk & Clueless - but otherwise, nice guys.
As soon as I realised things could end badly, I slowly passed them (they tend to stop often) & never saw them again.

But the single worst example by far was this:
4x4 Action Group Ladies Training Day at De Wildt arranged by Andreas.
We did the Theory & then the Obstacle Course.
Then we headed to the trail.
The ToyotaHolics were there. 54 vehicles (I'm told).
What a bunch of dumbass, disrespectful, mother-loving, suipgatte idiots!!!

They parked everywhere, blocking the road, clearly too unintelligent or drunk to realise others need to use the road.
At Gert se Klippie one Hoilc had set his braai up in the middle of the road. WTF
This is why you shouldn't drink during pregnancy.
They were rude, load, obstructive, aggressive & clearly know NOTHING about 4x4'ing.
Plus the cheering & clapping when one of their number did the little klip showed it was the 1st outing for most.
These guy probably jump up screaming with joy when they manage to Thread a needle. FFS!

When we later spoke to Alex of De Wildt, he lied & said he has guides supervising large groups. No. He didn't.
He also claimed to be unaware of the behaviour. Maybe he was overseas that weekend.
But it was clear that 54 x R300 meant more to him than the risk.

I will NEVER go back to De Wildt...

Have fun, Braai, encourage your mates, enjoy your outing - but don't be a loud, kommin, low-classed, aggressive idiot about it.

Rude, Drunk & Stupid is no way to go through life.

Sadly I'm also not a huge fan of Alex. Seems to encourage the behaviour so that his pub can make money.

Nothing wrong with a few beers afterwards (if you are not driving home).
But if you need to drink to Wheel, you are not a 4x4'er, your arr a chop.
