OGATO are they reviving the NOW & NORS

#1

Post by Mad Manny »

OGATO is apparently the Offroad Guides & Tour Operators association.
Never heard of them before.
Bernie Williams is apparently the Deputy Chairman.
They don't seem to have a website.

A recent post on Bernie Williams' Facebook Page (which I can find nowhere else) raises concerns.
Thank you to Hunter26 for alerting me.

It seems like they want to revive the NOW/NORS nonsense.

I'll expand more on this later...

Hope this is not a revival of those meetings at Toyota a few years ago .

You are referring to NOW & the NORS Johannes.
Looks like it may be.

I first need to find out more about OGATO, but there is very little on the interwebs.

Not sure how a body that has no website & the e-mail Bernie provided is Bernie@oldmanemu.co.za instead of something like Bernie@ogato.org.
Can be taken seriously.
Also, what regulatory powers does OGATO have?

I'd like to post Bernie's mail here, but it seems to be on FB only & only on FB, which is concerning.

First step is to find out who OGATO is.
Then to find out what they are up to.

So, who is OGATO?
They have no Webpage.
They have no dedicated e-mail addresses.
They seem to be FB based.
We don't know who they are (other than Vice Chair Bernie).
We don't know what authority they have.

I have unleashed Apoc's full fury.
He is asking all the right questions on Bernies personal FB page, where this was posted...

OGATO was defunct.
For some reason people have decided to raise it from the dead...

From what I can see they only have 20 members..
but the biggest fire usually starts with a small flame.

I see that Van Coller dude is also on their page. Isn't he a mod on the other forum?

Very limited info on it all. The Ogato FB page has been up since 2018 as is heralded as the information portal. Well I don’t see any information posted on that page in four years and only 20 members so maybe nothing to get excited about.

Good sleuth work Shane.
The AAWDC is also defunct.
I don't think SANOTA still exists.

From the Off Road side the only Role Players on that list that are still in full flight are ORRA and The 4x4 Action Group...

Role players in the South African 4×4 Industry
AAWDC (Association of All-Wheel Drive Clubs of Southern Africa)
NAAMSA (National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa)
SAVRALA (Southern African Vehicle Renting and Leasing Association)
SANOTA (South African National Off-Road Trainers Association)
DEA (Department of Environmental Affairs)
ORRA (Off Road Radio Association)
ICASA (The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa)
4×4 Action Group South Africa.

I personally think these societies/associations, or whatever they are called, don’t last because they have no”bite”. These associations are normally created because of some group of people that have an ego problem…

No society or association will ever control nor regulate off-roading.

So good luck to these clowns.

This is also being discussed on the Forum we can't name. Here is my post from that thread.

Good luck trying to regulate the "Dop & Drive" crowd that don't belong to any formal club. This is South Africa where the honest, law abiding citizens get regulate for someone's self enrichment while the "don't give a dam" crowd carry on with no regard to laws or regulations.

In my opinion the only people that will benefit will be the few collecting the money from the many.
