4x4 Action Group

So I have been following Jors Malan for some time now.

He has quite a few nice looking trails that may make for a pleasant change for those who have done the "local" trails one time too many....

If there's sufficient interest I'll get hold of him and arrange a weekend.

For the Record - Kevin was there with his Haval (seems like he's bloody everywhere!) so not many here would have an excuse - finances aside that is! It is a fair way to get there!

Jors Malan is BEX on the other Forum.
I was considering a trip there 4 years ago before I was banned for starting this Forum.

The recent trip there was arranged by Hedgehog I believe.

I think a 2023 trip to Klein Pella, Kakamas, Kamkierrie etc. would be awesome.

Not keen to drive 750km just for a weekend, so it'll have to be a 7 to 10 day trip.

Yes that is a little far for just a weekend....

Looks like he has some really nice spots along the river where one could possibly camp rough.

These trails are on my bucket list. However, as Manny said, possibly a little far for a weekend hop. I had the privilege of doing Namakwa with Andrew, Ron, John and a bunch of awesome folk back in 2018 (I think). First overnight was Riemvasmaak and then to Klein Pella via Pella, Charles' Pass and the back-road to Klein Pella. The back road is not the dirt road from Pella, but rather a nice 4x4 trail consisting of a few grade I/II obstacles. Thereafter, we hit the Namakwa eco-route.

This entire area and on Westwards is very high on my list of awesome places as I love the desert areas of our country (as well as Namibia), and there is very little more fun than driving in the Kalahari dunes.

That said, I have a burning desire to head out Namibia side again next year - skeleton coast and upwards. So I might not be able to justify the fuel for another very long trip.

Just the road trip would be a nice break. Sleep over at Red Sands.

Is there glamping or chalets? I don't camp. EVER. I also do not do bospoefies ever. Not unless I have no option.

Maybe this is because of infantry mustering. The reason though is immaterial.

There are generic camping sites at Klein Pella, as well as a guest house. There are also the bush camps (doringbaai etc) but there is no chalets / glamping at these. There is nothing at all if one heads further down the Namakwa trail.

Not really.

It makes me a person that realises that sleeping on the ground like a dog and crapping in a hole doesn't make you a tough man. It makes you uncomfortable with poo on your shoe.

I spent 15 months sleeping on the ground and crapping in the bushes in Ovamboland and Southern Angola.
I camped with my kids because I couldn't afford chalets back then, and the Wild Coast had none in those days anyway.

The appeal has been gone for some time. If it floats your boat..........then enjoy.

I am almost 60 and my knees are 72 years old. I refuse. And don't even discuss modified camping chairs with buckets or plastic bags........sies man, just plain gross.

This would be a nice trip. Amam dunes is also nearby for a nice one day Dune trip...
