ORRU (Off Road Rescue Unit) rebranding as SARZA ???

#1

Post by Mad Manny »

I see (on FB, where nothing can be believed) that ORRU is rebranding as SARZA.

Since I don't believe anything I see only on FB, I decided to do a Fact Check.

The ORRU website (www.orru.co.za) makes absolutely NO mention of a rebranding.

So, either there is a 'Boeretwis' story behind this, or it's just being handled badly.

Anyone know more?

It's definitely true, but the way it's unfolding implies there is more to the story...

Its true.
And yes, theres more to the story..
All will be told in time i guess.

Its a pitty that the off road Industry lost them, BUT also they didnt do much for the Off Road Communilty. in the end they were just members of the clubs and the AAWDC...
most of the events they covered was bikes and people stuck on mountains and in floods. Basicly more a Disaster management Service then a Off Road Resue Unit... they only use offroad vehicles.

Still, I respect them for what they do and have achived over the years.

We breathly joined them in 2018 but due to Financial constraints and time, we count continue. 😥.

Still a bunch of amazing guys.

They were quite active and integrated members of the 4WDC, Base 4 etc in the v. early days when I was a member there.
They had a lot of well organized specialist people with know-how etc. which allowed for us rank & file to learn from.
Radio, Medical, Maps/Navig, extraction etc etc
Dedicated guys .

Indeed ORRU has a new name both Renier_c and I are part of what is now known as SARZA the former ORRU. The SARZA stands for Search&Rescue ZA as it give a better indication of what the organization is about as the old Off Road Rescue Unit is not a 4x4 recovery service as some people thought. It's a specialized volunteer search and rescue organization.

Just found this post and would like to respond. ORRU Western Cape is where it all started and they designed the logo. The other provinces was given permission to use the logo but due to unethical behaviour from ORRU Gauteng the Cape branch withdrew their right to the use of the logo and name and therefor they had to rebrand. ORRU Western Cape is still existing as did from the beginning.
