In Nam I can still buy booze.

We are a funny people.
Can you imagine them trying to ban booze in Namibia?
In 2019 my business partners and I took a client for lunch here in Oshakati at the local guesthouse. The guesthouse is our resident water hole and the waiters know that when we ask for mineral water, he should bring us each a pint of lager.

Unbeknownst to us the client, who was staying over at the guest house, took the liberty of ordering 4 mineral waters (intending to drink water). He was quite shocked when the waiter brought beer. Luckily he was a raw Irishman and needless to say, we had a few mineral waters that afternoon.

Many years ago I was a exploration Geo with RioTinto on the Louw U Concessions around Rossing.
We worked in the desert daily ... dropped in by chopper or several hours driving up the Swakop, Kahn or their tributary valleys and canyons, mapping, drilling etc. It was hot testing work ... ' Camel Country ' .
Come the weekend we were pretty thirsty, spirited and elated etc.
Generally used to gather at 'The Swakopmunder' bar; it had a monster Baboon, fag in hand leering down over the dedicated congregation of boozers ...
one time drove our Series Landy up the steps & right into the bar nudging the tables aside...
... and ordered our beers ,
... and they served us, there and then ...

Right now (June/July 2021) Gas (Petrol to the educated) in the US is at it's highest price ever!
There are also sporadic fuel shortages in parts.
So feel a little for your US Off Road colleagues - they be suffering!

Also, the massive heatwave in the northern US & Canada has resulted in Power Outages (like loadshedding).
But because of the high gas prices, you can't afford to go for a drive to cool down.

We be having it good here in the RofSA...

So... Suzuki just changed the Jimny to an LCV by removing the rear seats and fitting steel wheels, then they wacked up the price and relaunched to the great unwashed...

We regulary used to have visits from German Technical people to assist us with modifying theri mining vehicles for local conditions.

During off hours we used to take this lot to lunch or dinner.

You should have seen their jaws drop when they see a baķkie full of workers driving past.

"Mein Got! Zey haf no seat belts!"
Make me think of 1989 on the SWA border. Untag were moving in. We had this Australian Captain with us. Next moment a Buffel drove past.
He ask what were the purpose of those little tipper trucks.
