Manny’s idea has some flaws.

I wouldn’t try and hinge the top, as long as the drawer sliders are long enough and decent quality.

Each to their own.

Good idea Manny. Problem is you generally have drawers so that you can pack stuff on top of them and use the drawers to SLIDE out. Hence the flap idea wouldn’t work. Rather make the top of the drawers a platform that can slide out. Great for easy packing and easy access.

I have not decided if I'm going to put drawers in yet - at this point I can fit 3 x ammo crates in the one side and a fairly large....
Shane, please forgive Kurt and Andrea's for missing this part....

Would you like me to send you a photo of a crayon drawing of the thread title?

Shane,
Rather do it like this:
Two side Bench structures to wheel arch height
... with storage underneath ( water, fuel other etc)
Then keep center Isle versatile :
either empty for access
or a removable drawer or slide
Then an overlying easily secureable platform
of 3 sections: 2 side bench platforms
& 1 center isle platform

then just have two drawer slides
either side of the center isle
such that drawer can be inserted
or removed completely .

Have single additional removeable cross bar
of angle iron for better frame rigidity if necessary .

This is what I'm changing my set-up to.
My bin is approx 165*165cm ...
and my 2 side benches will be approx 45cm wide
and center isle 75cm wide .
To better utilize vertical canopy volume
my rhs bench structure will support
a 3-level shelf system (not shown)
that will be accessible from Gull-Wings ...
or from inside ...

Drawing perspective from rear RHS ...

How many kg of bacon can you squeeze into the drawer system?

Ok so I was able to fit:

3 x blesbuck
2 x springbuck
1 x black wildebeest
1 x impala

All de-boned and put into coolboxes and plastic containers. The top deck was full.

Underneath in the "drawer" compartment:
3 x ammo crates - groceries and ammo
1 x large meat crate - beer, spiced coke etc.
clothing bag and bedding for 3.

On sides I could fit:
Shooting sticks
Rifle ramrods
Compressor
Metal gongs + stand
Hunting shoes.

2 hunters that would have travelled with me dropped out so I put the rifles on the back seat.

Should have taken a foto. But happy for now.

Biggest issue is to dust proof the bin!

I have a MiniMetalian trailer and at one campsite
a guy kept bugging me to sell it to him ...
Asked him why he was so insistent .
He replied " to carry his ammo !"

Suspect he was setting up new Boer Commando !

Ok so just an update on my (cockswomble) drawer "type" system...

First pic - I can fit 3 x ammo crates on lhs plus then a plastic crate on the right.
The plastic crates is around 900mm long which means I can also fit another ammo crate or my recovery gear on that side if needs be.

2nd pic : As is obvious my dust kit is not quite there yet ImageImageImage
Image

3rd pic : Behind the passenger wheel arch I fitted a mobile battery system to power lights, phone chargers etc. I don't need much for this application.

4th pic : Opposite wheel arch - my portable compressor

5th pic: Recovery bag

Last pic: Busy fitting canopy lights.

As I said before - my setup is used mostly for fishing/hunting - so I wanted to maximise top deck space. It must be adaptable to the different situations so I did not want to put in fixed drawers. I have a Conqueror trailer for overlanding.

It ain't pretty, but wasn't expensive and will do the job!

Now to sort out the dust kit... ImageImageImage

Looks like it does what it was made for. Mission accomplished. Well done.

Now when can I fetch some pork chops?
