Thanks for this, it is shocking.
I’ll get the vehicle on a scale just to make sure it is within spec and also as a “reference” to my thread.

Don’t start with trailer and caravans, it will be worse.
Here is a story. So in 2013 my wife and I bought an Offtrax trailer, members of my previous club said this trailer is the next big thing and the price vs value is the best in the market. The owner gave me an excel sheet of options to add, and I selected everything including an upgraded, heavy duty axle. I did not have an EB license then so i choose the non-braked version…. At the bottom of my invoice, in FONT 1.23, it was written that the owner needs to ensure the trailer is within legal towing limits. When ai collected my trailer the owners said “Moenie bang wees om die trailer te pak nie, met jou as kan jy baie goed pak”
Anyway, i towed it through Botswana and we did a few trips locally. Then i wanted to sell it, the new owner asked if he can see the papers and requested to take it to a weigh bridge, no problem I said. My trailer’s dry weight (with the standard fitted options as per my invoice) was >840kg kg, basically my trailer was not roadworthy and that was as it came off the shop floor….

LesseW, I don't know your family setup, but when going camping with my wife and two sons, we manage to pack the trailer and bakkie so that we comply with the weight limits.
But I do concede, it is very easy to exceed the gvm on a camping trip.

Once I loaded the beer and ice, my FJ is well over the limit.

I own a Bushlapa now and have an EB license, it is a lot easier now to pack as per the road laws. It just upsets me that manufacturers/clients don't know these things when they purchase trailer.

Conqueror products are also overweight and no where near the weight claimed on their paperwork.

Weight is always the enemy - with or without a trailer....
