Thanks! I see the "better" winches come out with an IP67 rating.

By better I don't necessarily mean brand name.

... its a 1975 Warn winch, cost me R1000
and I got it overhauled for few hundred ...
... some say its better than the mod ones.

That winch is only as strong as the mounting brackets you welded Chas :lol:

Ive got a big 5mm box base for my winch
CNC cut and bent to exact dimensions
... ready for, but not welded as yet
... wouldnt trust my own welding of it,
... yet !!!

I haven't bought a winch for a while.

but I've always bought off these guys - they have spares, they have expertise in repairing

The Warn is expensive, but after 12 years of abuse mine has never been opened, and it's worked a fair amount.

They do have less expensive brands.

I'd compare prices with them before jumping into the unknown....

I actually went with a RUNVA 11XPS.

To be honest, I don't expect to use it much. It's like insurance - there if you need it.

It's IP67 rated and the aussies seem to be really happy with them.

But thanks for your advice none the less
