Goodyear to buy Coopers Tyres

#1

Post by Mad Manny »

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. agreed to buy Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. a deal that Goodyear said would allow it to reduce costs and build out its businesses in the U.S. and China.

Goodyear said Monday it will pay about $2.8 billion in cash and stock for its smaller rival, including $41.75 a share in cash for Cooper’s shares, which rose about 30% to $56.86 in late morning trading. Goodyear’s shares increased 22% to $16.97.

The combined company would generate annual revenue of roughly $17.5 billion and have some 72,000 employees globally, according to an investor presentation. Cooper’s tire brands include its namesake line and Mastercraft.

Hope this will reduce the high price of Cooper's tyres

So the tyres will become even more expensive as Goodyear needs to recoup the purchase costs of Cooper

Sounds about right. Although I managed to get a set of ST Maxx recently for a really good deal... hopefully that will become more common.

Didn’t your ST Maxx delaminate a few years ago, Manny?

Kurt, I bought 5 when Fearless was on 42000km.
12000km later we noticed a crack on the outer sidewall running right round the tyre on 2 tyres.
As I fitted the tyres with the outside facing in because I didn't want to display the blue writing (Notaholic) it took long to notice this flaw.
Coopers immediately replaced the two tyres free of charge - GREAT service!

I'm now on 122000km.

The original three are therefore now on 80 000km.
The replaced two are on 68 000km.

Due to astute rotation all 5 are reasonably evenly worn.

I should get another 10 000 to 14 000km on this set.

Damn good tyres!

Kurt I have bought many GoodYear ATX tyres - no problems.
I've bought Yokohama, Dunlop & General with no warranty issues.
Others have had no issues with Maxxis & Michelin.

But not only was Coopers great in the way they handled the claim, the tyres are good too.

You need to look beyonf just BFG's - expand your horizon's (if you get weather clear enough to see an horizon).
