Deflating in the First World

Watching a few Ozzie Youtube Channels as well as a few North American shows, I noticed something:

Being backward, these guys still use the old Imperial system & refer to PSi tyre pressures.
That's Pounds per square Inch (we stopped using Pounds & Inches in the early 1960's #progressive).

We use Bar or KPa (basically the same thing)

The other thing I noticed is that they barely deflate.

Guys refer to dropping (dropping! ) to 30PSi, sometimes to 20PSi (here in SA we consider 20 ps i to be a LOT) & then occasionally, to 15PSi.

Now 35, 20 & 15 PSi are not that soft:

35 psi = 2.41 bar or 241 KPa
30 psi = 2.07 bar or 207 KPa
25 psi = 1.72 bar or 172 KPa
20 psi = 1.38 bar or 138 KPa
15 psi = 1.03 bar or 103 KPa

So these guys are 'airing down' or 'Deflating' to around 1.8bar & sometimes to around 1.4 bar.
They NEVER go below 1.0 bar.

If I deflate, then I either go to 1,2, or 1.0, if its thick sand, I'll drop lower, I've been to 0.6 bar.

I can't 'Deflate' to 30psi because that's basically my normal running pressure...

Anyone agree with these Canucks, Yanks & Ozzies?

Grips will also mention how your Ford will shake to pieces at 30 psi = 2.07 bar or 207 KPa on the Northern Cape roads....

Johannes, 4WD 24/7 are/were sponsored by 'Dominator Winches' so they pull out the winch faster than a porn star pulls out near the end of a shoot...

Also, Shauno is not that good at Wheelin...

During my first dune trip in Swakopmund my guide ( a fellow 4x4 CF member named Bartho) showed me some ropes.

My first 5 attempts to get up a dune with tyres at 1 bar failed. He suggested 0.8 bar and up I went no problem.

So low pressures are beneficial.

And I could not believe 0.2 bar made such huge difference.

No idea how the imperial guys get away with higher pressures. Maybe that is why they get stuck so often.

Dom Fokkers. ( Down Under)

Doing the NC roads I never go above 1.6.
Even on tar.
Only going above 1.6 when fully loaded..
Sand 0.5 and lower.

But then I look at profile rather than pressure.

Thing to remember you drive on air. Steel wheels were an Ox wagon feature

There is only one thing that is useful when inflated hard & that is definitely not a tyre

BF's pappie. The one set on the 79 were 80k plus when I had the last look.
Think they will do 90k..
Did a trip from Lüderitz to Walvis on a set of BF's at 0.6. Replaced them at 90k km...

Oh dear, someone here says BFG are good tyres Image. Wait for the Cape Softroader to come and tell you that BFG are crap on X-Trails.
