Here is a new trick the service guys are trying to make extra money
Sir/mam. We will need to do a diagnostics test to see if there is something wrong with your vehicle.
That will be R600 odd on top of the service

Personally, I would prefer marrying someone that would screw me hard and proper when I least expect it................. Punctual handjobs are as boring as toasters.Ricoffy wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2019 3:24 pmI disagree. Buying a car because it has a good re-sale value is like marrying someone who gives punctual and tidy handjobs.
Re-sale value is, for 90% of vehicle owners, a decisive issue. The remaining 10% probably can afford to take a knock, others can't. Whether you finance it or bought it cash, recouping as much as possible on your vehicle when you sell it should be a priority.

They bought ours when we got rid of it, but the price we got was not that great.

The problem in my neck of the woods is that not a lot of Renaults are sold (apart from the duster). You can easily drive 500km in Namibia without coming across a Renault, and if you do, its a duster.
Every dealer offered my brother less than the trade in value on his stepway. Renault offered trade in, but only if he bought another Renault, which he was not prepared to do.
There is just very little demand for Renaults in Namibia

Yeah, you aren’t wrong. I think the only Renault these days that offer any decent resale value is the Duster.

Again, this concept is very subjective. Why do I absolutely have to sell it? Resale is only relevant if you have to sell it. But I think people don’t view cars as consumables. If they do then it’s less painful. Everyone’s approach is different.Ricoffy wrote:I disagree. Resale for you buying a car might be 90% of your buying decision, but it’s maybe 10% for me.
Hence the subjectiveness. It’s all relative.

But I read the thread topic again & agree we are way off topic. I’m surprised that most of our posts haven’t been Dirk’d by now.
Although if he was here, I suppose he’d have also nuked most of the on-topic posts as well.

I absolutely buy vehicles with future resale in mind. Who drives vehicles forever these day? Do we expect vehicles of today to last forever?

Craig. I hear what you are saying. But nothing lasts forever. So at some stage you will have to part with your beloved SuzHunter4x2 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2019 8:38 amSo in other words, most people don't ever own their own vehicle, basically leasing the vehicle and trading back then get another.Mike Nel wrote:I absolutely buy vehicles with future resale in mind. My fear is buying a modern 2nd hand vehicle in say 10 years time that has no warranty, but still getting screwed on high priced service and part costs.
Eg My old Isuzu 250kb, for 4 injectors cost me just over R3k,for the d tech it cost average R8k per injector, so which cash strapped bugger can afford future services but cannot afford to buy new and trade in every 4 years.
