Toyota Land Cruiser 300 vs Nissan Patrol Y63

I don't like those 22's, hopefully you'll be able to fit 18" rims, if not, it's kak.

Probably not. The Patrol isn't an offroad vehicle anymore, so the huge brake calipers will be the limiting factor.

Many guys who owns 300 Series diesel V6 Cruisers are not happy with them. Overall the 300 Series seems to be less popular than the 200 Series.
If Nissan can get its marketing right and the v6 Patrol is a worthy replacement for the V8 Patrol I can see a market for the new Patrol.
The Toyota guys moaned and bitched when the SFA Hilux was scrapped, but the current Hilux is a sales leader.

The Toyota guys moaned and bitched when the 4500EFI motor was scrapped, but now they love the V6 4.0 and are moaning that is usage is in decline.

They moaned when the 105SFA Cruiser was replaced by the 100 IFS.

They will always moan & bitch because they hate change....

And they're already moaning about the 1VD disappearing but they first moaned that it was gutless.

Jake's, the V8 is way better than the 2.8GD... If you are towing a 3.5 ton trailer with 6 beeste up a long hill at 140km/h, with your fat wife by your side.
Ergo the V8 is better...

Yes, the 2.8 is better in every other application, but when 99% of your usage is high speed beeste transportation with your Fat Biets, & a long hill, who wants to sukkle with 4cyl...?

Yes, as a 4x4 enthusiast, Jeep has played a role, but in the past decade, they've only offered one worthy model, the Wrangler. And at R1 million they only sell 1 or 2 a month, so they are barely contributing anymore.
There is a weak rumor that they are working on a cheaper 4x4.
But why bother?
We have the Jimny & Mahindra has the Thar that we could bring in.
As a Jeep owner, I agree. The Wrangler has been over-priced for some obscure reason. It would be better for sales if they brought in the Sport version, but it seems that Stellantis only focuses on premium level trim models.
The Chinese now have the BAIC B40, which is 80% the same and half the price.
I've been looking at a few (lot of) Grand Cherokees. Would love a Wrangler, but models a good deal older with the same motor are double the price (way out of my budget).

Stay away from the CRD in either case. The Hemi or the V6 Penta engine only. I see the Other Forum is telling you all types of stuff.

Just understand that the GC was sold as a premium vehicle and in that vein, think about Disco 4 type prices if anything breaks.

100%, looking at a V6 tomorrow. Know any decent Jeep indies other than Amercan SUV in Pretoria?

As far as costs are concerned...I've felt the pain of 4 Land Rovers and 2 VWs already.

I've use Eben for the last few years, but his quality has slipped of late.
He took some customers over from Bulli (Andre) that dropped his business overnight and left for the Eastern Cape, but this didn't do Eben any favours.

He was the Workshop Manager for Jeep Wonderboom before they closed that branch.

If the v6 Patrol is indeed a worthy replacement for the V8 Patrol, it would not be the first time that Nissan poorly executes on a good product. Failing at the last hurdle, i.e. local marketing and support. I really envy Suzuki's way of going about things, cultivating and fostering a brand loyal client base that will serve them well for years to come.

A new Patrol overtook me on the R21 yesterday - the one with the fugly grill. That's a lot of chrome, but I'd buy one if I could afford it.

That was the the current Patrol and it sounds like the Pre Facelift version.

That was very ugly, the facelift is much better and the new Y63 will be even nicer...

I'll withhold final judgment on the looks until I can see it in person. The current images don't seem to do it much justice...

Nonetheless, I commend Kia's daring approach. It's clear they recognized the need for a bold design in the bakkie market. Here's my take on it:

Pros:
  • Bold design
  • Well-designed tray layout
  • Convenient corner steps on tray
  • Versatile front bumper, ideal for aftermarket modifications
  • Attractive interior
  • Dedicated X-Trek off-road model looks good
  • Kia 7-year unlimited kilometer warranty
  • 1.2-ton load capacity
Cons:
  • Polarizing design that may alienate some/a lot of buyers
  • Potentially limited off-road capability with average break-over and departure angles judging by some of the pictures
  • Disappointing engine
  • 1.0-ton+ load capacity on all models, which may hinder novated lease options in Australia
Overall:
Kia deserves credit for taking a risk in the market. The design will not appeal to everyone, but it seems like Kia's aim from the beginning was to stand out.

However, the engine choice is the big concern for me. The 2.2, while reliable, may not be enough for this segment. A more potent option, like the V6 diesel from the Kia Mohave, would have been a better fit.

Kia Tasman
Engines and Transmission:
The Kia Tasman will be powered by a 205 kW/421 Nm 2.5-litre turbopetrol engine, which is said to propel the bakkie from 0-100 kph in 8.5 sec, or a 154 KW/441 Nm 2.2-litre turbodiesel (it differs from market to market), and customers will be able to choose between an 8-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual ‘box.

Mike, more power than a Triton/Pajero Sport. What's are you complaining about!?!
