Leaving Friday for Bass Lake Lodge on the Moloto road - http://basslakelodge.co.za/kamp-tuisblad/, staying in the 'Boskamp' - but it's not really 'bos' - they have a 'wellness spa', on site restaurant serving "mouth-watering Breakfasts and Café Style Lunches to Fine Dining Dinners", even a thing called "Cake Saturdays - with heavenly freshly baked cakes, baked by our own Pastry Chef" :shock: Glamping here we come!! :lol:

PS I played no part in choosing or booking the place, we were invited by friends..

Going to "Wilge River bush camp" https://wilgeriver.co.za/ this weekend, and hoping for cloud-free nights so we can spot some meteors, these ones : https://science.nasa.gov/solar-system/m ... -aquarids/, leftovers from Halley's comet (who can remember that one!! ;) ).

Nobody has gone camping since 3 May?!? :shock:

This weekend Kudu Bush camp in Dinokeng, only 8 sites and we've booked 2, other 6 are empty - so no other "Bad behaviour by mostly GP 4x4ers in Mana Pools" vibes as per that other forum! :mrgreen:

Went to Marakele last week to do some equipment testing. Just a short campout Monday to Wednesday. Nice place, excellent ablutions. Warm days, nights are a bit icy though.

Not much camping in winter and some members struggle to express themselves so they refrain (thankfully) from sharing....

We went camping up at Pafuri in June, stayed at Ntakheni. Road there was fine, got worse after Pietersburg. Decided to return via Kruger, exiting at Phalaborwa gate. The road back was fine up to Pietersburg, then turned to *** as soon as we hit the N1. Toll gates were a mess.

The camping at Ntakheni was awesome as always, very quiet. We took a few day-trips into Kruger - we saw a lot of animals this time, even saw Eland and Roan. Drove down to Punda Maria to go have an icecream. Sat by the waterhole for a while, lots of elephant at the waterhole, with some smaller ellies behaving like true teenagers. Did the loop around Punda, always a nice dive - would be great if they ever create a wild camp on that side.

Our little squaredrop trailer is fantastic - I am not the "caravan" type, but man does this little camper make life easy. Setup in two minites.

Leaving on Friday, but not for the weekend only!! :mrgreen:

This 'weekend' will last until 24 Sep, going for a +- 4800km round-trip like this --> Pta - Lichtenburg - Upington - Pella - Tierhoek - Richtersveld - Oranjemund - Luderitz (taking the D707) - Tiras mountains - Sossusvlei - Mariental - Stampriet - Gochas (via the D503) - Aroab - Hakskeenpan - Askham - Upington - Pretoria.

When planning this trip, I had a few goals in mind:
- visit Richtersveld again, last time was just too short! And maybe we can see some late flowers this time...
- spend more than one night at Sossusvlei, to have enough time for sunrise and sunset pics of the dunes
- drive the D503 which, according to that 'other' forum, is one of the "MOST scenic trax in Namibia"
- drive on Hakskeen pan and show those puny petrol powerplants what an Isuzu diesel in full cry looks like!! :twisted:

Roll on Friday!!

Enjoy. When doing the Richterveld Eco route - if you ar going to, visit the Mica "mines" as well as the Fluoride mine. Rather intersting if geology is of interest. Safe travels.
