Wow some of you spend a lot on tyres

I use my Nissan for work, so 90% of my driving occurs on tar.

But these roads are predominantly built by the chinese or are labour based. I also have to attend the odd traditional hearings in the bush and its mostly sand driving for a short bit.

Every three or four months I visit the in-laws on the farm and other than that I mainly drive sand on holidays for a week or two at a time.

Goodyear Wrangler does the job for me. Inexpensive and lasts about 60k km if you drive well.

I never knew they made a 726 tyre, must have been a once off.

The 762 on the other hand is a great tyre
Flex is overrated

762 was a good tyre. I always preferred the tread over the 764

762 is nice in sand but the sidewalls suck. Lost three of them due to sidewall cuts.

I am here, we were out playing on rocks.

With the D3 there are a few things to take into account, 3 tons on 2 wheels tends to break some rocks. I did this again this weekend.
3 tons will also push a rock down hill that was thought to be immovable as many 4x4's have been over it
Being one of the few D3/4 owners who does trails and rocks, there seems to be very few AT that actually work in rocky conditions on the D3/4, as I have tried most.

The 3 that stand out -
BFG's Crappy on tar and ripped the hell out of them on rocks and managed to get a few punctures.
Dynapro's are great on tar, but on My D3 with where we drive, not so much, lost a total of 3 on 2 trips.
Geolander's great on tar, but better than Dynapro's off road.

Maxxis 764's lost one on this weekend when I was guided into the rocks on the side of the trail, 10mm difference would have saved the tyre.

Rabbidog,

You are one of a few willing to play where the Jeeps play,
Those sandstone rocks really tested us,
Even my tyres showed some scares, but my sidewall really took the brunt of the route,

I recently put Maxxis Razr on my car. Really quiet on tar so far. I suppose will get noisier.

Total kilos done about 8000. Done about 1200km gravel in Namibia, including Van Zyls Pass and about 800km off road in Botswana, all towing trailer. Showing no signs of chipping, chunking or cuts yet. Will see how they go but i am impressed so far.

It’s true. Mine also got roughed up by rocks. But never shredded.

Although better than most 18" tyres, it leaves a very small margin in the sidewall height (6.75") for deflating, taking the vehicle mass (did I get terminology right Alex? :P ) into consideration.

The overall tyre height of 30.6" is about the same as the 265/70x16's I had on RooiTjiep, but mine had a 1/2" more sidewall and the fully loaded Jeep is only about 2400 kg.

How do you guys care for your tires?

I rotate my tires every 5000kms without fail. Even the spare

What else can you do to prolong tire life?

Looked at getting 265/70/17's but then I will need spacers, and I may not fit into most underground parking.
